Whisky Reviews for Glenallachie 1976 TWhC

- Please read my review of the miniature bottle here at Whiskybase id 83678) that justifies the 87 points score.
- Im apprehensive about opening this bottle due to Serge’s review WF and i quote: “My worst whisky ever, totally putrid. 1 point [that's right - and that might well have been a little too much]”. So here goes.
N: Smells safe enough, pineapples & lime jelly, fermented apples with a floury ethanol briny maltiness. Its a curious alcohol, at times its more a botanical gin mixed with a sweet fortified wine joined by Heinz sandwich spread, sweet malt biscuits, caramel, old ice-cream wafers and rubbery, melted tutty-fruity ice-cream developing. There is an odd murkiness in the background but overall its not too shabby.
T: A spirit arrival quicky mellows to a salivating vanilla maltiness, a touch of wood pepper then pineapple and citrus lime notes before the maltiness really settles in. Lots of spirit around with a drying nature but it doesn’t get out of control.
F: Malty, lime and chocolate vanilla resides. Rather drying cardboard spirit finish after such a salivating developing.
C: Not without its problems this Speysider is enjoyable overall a spirit led fruity sweet malty malt. Im not sure what was up with Serge's sample but that was certainly not this thank goodness.
