The nose is full of peat smoke and brine, along with fresh berries, cocoa, and a hint of honey. The taste has orange peel and grapefruit citrus notes, along with honey, dark chocolate, and hints of caramel. The finish has a good balance of berries, smoke, old leather, and pipe tobacco. Good balance and consistency.
- This is not to be missed, a gorgeous dram.
Gentle burning bracken notes and deep earthy tones. Distant peat fires, but also a juicy fruit edge, mango and passionfruit. Lemon zest. Coal tar soap and horse tack.
Sweet and honeyed, fresh fruit sorbet then the peat hits with coal tar soap and a meaty edge.
Sweet peat, demerara sugar and hospital wards.
- Wonderful whisky. Baskets of red fruits and salted toffee. The maturity gives the Bowmore peat a ton of complexity that you simply cannot find in a younger whisky. Sea breeze, vanilla, floral, cookie dough, some tannins. I absolutely loved it.
- Have to say I didn`t think this was too overwhelmed by FWP or soapiness. Loads of red berries and really rather enjoyable.
- This can be yours for
400 EUR. Not cheap, but what a whisky! Sarcasm, anyone?
The nose is
surprisingly fresh with vanilla, white fruit, violets (the flowers) and
lavender that quickly drown out the initial maritime elements. The peat, the
sea weeds, the hearth, they all succumb to the power of the sweet side. A clear
hint of mercurochrome lingers in the background. Unfortunately it quickly
becomes quite perfumy. If you ask me, it even turns somewhat soapy. Oh, oh,
this is not looking good.
It is soft on the
palate with absolutely no burn, despite the high ABV. The white fruit returns,
joined by honey and spices. Even some gooseberries. Sea salt and a lot of pet.
But again, on the palate as well, lavender and violets make it perfumy. No, I
do not enjoy this. The soap is a bummer.
The finish is long,
salty and smoky, but you cannot get the soap out of your mouth. Rinse, please!
