  1. LDB scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Interesting! Tastes elegant and fruity, but not very "clynelian". The bottle was just opened, however, so the neck pour is not as good as the malt has developed later, so the text is 1 point behind the score.
    • Nose
      89 89
Apricot, sweet seasoning, fruit tart baked with brown sugar, mostly with apricots and a few ripe oranges
    • Taste
      88 88
First a few dried figs, liquorice, but then it gets peppery, even a little bouncy. With time and air in the bottle, it becomes rounder and with more honey.
    • Finish
      87 87
Candied fruits withdraw in favor of a slight bitterness before the flow of saliva lets the residual sweetness drip from the palate. Overall medium-long finish.

The bipolarity of this malt is surprising. Both sides, on the one hand the typical and very nice distillery character and on the other hand the strong influence of the finishing casks, deliver very nice aspects when viewed separately. But in combination, strangely enough, there is something that disturbs the harmony. Like two very beautiful shades that hurt your eyes when you look at them together.
    • Nose
Honey with raisins, sweet tree resin, wood polish, dates, cedar, bitter orange, bitter orange, marzipan potatoes, a melting beeswax candle stands next to it, an enticing scent like aftershave with sandalwood aroma permeates the room
    • Taste
Strong honey at the start, marzipan, a few figs and dates, tangerines and almonds (a whole plate of Santa Claus), slightly malty, chocolate cake with morello cherries, bitter orange, traces of roasted coffee, the oak tingles a bit
    • Finish
Medium length, pink grapefruit, sparkling, subtle barley, milk chocolate appears briefly, cherries, marzipan, beeswax dripping with honey, brittle, toasted vanilla note, tobacco, the oak makes its contribution in the background, lemongrass

The filling level of the bottle I bought at the time is already very low and not without reason. I won't drink them up! That remains my personal treasure and pleasure - at some point again. Hey guys, this is how sherry whisky should be! My glass is empty and the scent of raspberries is still wafting up and beguiling my senses.

Nice and fruity-fresh on the nose of orange and apricot with light vanilla and peach.
In the mouth fruity-sweet with a slight alcoholic bite. On the slightly too short finish, spicy with notes of sherry and oak and a bit of spiciness.

Nice everyday whisky without much complexity. Unfortunately one of the weaker Distillers Editions.

  22. Calmar scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Molt is very reserved, secretive, requires a calm and unhurried approach, a good warm-up; a harmonious fusion of the base and the barrel, in my opinion, did not work out, the struggle of the beginnings and some kind of incompleteness is more evident, but as a whole it is good, only necessarily warm up and let him breathe.
    • Nose
Cool, chopped sliced fruit - apples, pears, peaches, a little dried fruit in the background - dried apricots, raisins, mineral notes - raw stones, metalwork tools in a lubricant with metallic dust, cold porridge, citrus notes and wax, berry tones, more dried fruits, sweets - the aroma as a whole is quite closed, It is necessary to pull out and catch the components.
    • Taste
Restrained, peppery on the growing sweet-sour background of the struggle of green apples and unsweetened oranges with the sweetness of dried apricots and raisins (the winner is not identified), watery.
    • Finish
White pepper, dried apricots and raisins, but not sweet, but rather with sour citrus, medium in duration.

Does he have this beeswax note? Yes he has. And how. However, this is such a good connection with the other flavors received that the beeswax is indeed present as a characteristic of this malt, but not penetrating.
    • Nose
And there he is already, the beeswax. Directly and immediately, one might think that the candle is in front of it. The nose is soft and velvety and provides at the beginning, in addition to the beeswax, spicy honey notes, yeast and the smell of freshly baked bread. Some violet-like in the background.
    • Taste
Soft and very creamy on the go. Also on the tongue is the characteristic wax note, surrounded by honey and vanilla and middle-aged oak. The waxy creaminess lasts for a long time and transports herbaceous herbs to the tongue after a while. At the back there is surprisingly a menthol note, which is very refreshing.
    • Finish
Medium-long and still creamy, with fresh and cooling menthol, honey, vanilla and fruity sweetness.

  25. malthead-sven scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

The creamy-waxy note is a unique feature of Clynelish in itself. The sherry ripening of the DE brings a fruity counterpart, but I expected something more present, yet delicious. 85/100
    • Nose
Immediately the characteristic waxiness, in addition to mandarins, wild honey, fruity, ripe, soft pears and peaches, some herbal tea, later pastries, butter biscuits, in the background a trace of sage
    • Taste
Creamy, stronger, grassy floral and slightly dry, some grape and marzipan, cloves and nutmeg
    • Finish
fruity, tangerines and almonds, plus a good portion of oak, which lays over the cheeks, all in all quite long and slightly dry again

  26. Koalafant scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Good malt without corners and edges, but also without special features (86/100)
    • Nose
Pleasantly mild sherry-toned cachew kernels and biscuits. Later comes a light ethereal freshness
    • Taste
Round and always sweeter. Again slightly nutty and very slightly bitter with a pleasant alcoholic pungency
    • Finish
      medium and rather dry

    Tasted in April 2015.
    • Nose
Sweet with notes of citrus, oranges, dark cherry, melon, Sherry raisins, heather honey, dark rum, coffee, barley, herbs, old cellar, tobacco, a little smoke and old oak.
    • Taste
Clean and rich with dried dates, dried apricots, pear, orange, banana, Sherry, caramel, resin, peat, spicy oak, after full of tannins.
    • Finish
Long and sweet with notes of dried dates, dried apricots, citrus, malt, Sherry, eucalyptus, pepper, tobacco, a little salt, peat and oak.

  35. Bishlouk scored this whisky 79 points Connoisseur

Nose quite fruity (red fruits), cooked cherry. Light beeswax. But becomes very chemical after aeration. Flat and aqueous mouth . Very slight salinity. Final: A little alcoholic kick, a little salt, then nothing, everything dies. Verdict: Dare I say that Diageo offers us here, once again, a low-end bromine without much interest?

  36. Ikkakumon scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

A Clynelish atypical but pleasant to taste.
    • Nose
Spices, sherry, oak, orange, sea salt.
    • Taste
Marked influence of sherry casks, fruits (oranges, red fruits), caramel, spices, oak.
    • Finish
Quite long, woody and peppery, a little iodine.

  37. Malt Hans scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

    Dry

fruit aroma, heather honey, prunes, sultanas, ripe melon, cinnamon,

raisins, orange, banana and peat. Fruity sweetness, pepper, resin,

cinnamon, slivovitz, eucalyptus and malt. Medium long, spicy and malty

    end.

    Go for the standard 14.
    • Nose
Spiced rum.  Raisin cake.  Oak.  Sherry.  Salt.
    • Taste
Sherry and oak.  Tannins.  Bitter berries.  Spice rack.  Dry dates.
    • Finish
Medium and woody.  Salt water.  Hints of dried furit.

  39. hsmithjr scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

The extra "finishing" in the Oloroso casks has taken some of the magic out of the Clynelish.  I am a big fan of the standard 14, and this DE does not really do the spirit justice.
