A distinct nose. Certainly not everybody's darling. I like(d) it.
    • Nose
When opening the bottle some time back, sulphur hit my nose. Now as the bottle is half emptied it has fainted and turned into a rooty, earthy marzipan. Mellow sherry with hints of (still distantly sulphuric) smoke. Queer appearance, though. Orange peel and distant green apples.
    • Taste
Medium-strong coffee intermingled with orange notes. Dry. Becoming peppery. Fading into woody toffee. Quite some development!
    • Finish
      Lingering oak. Tobacco. Medium-long.

This one smells and tastes rancid, sulphury and like diesel. The old 15yo was a very nice dram, this one is one of the worst Mortlach I ever had.

  5. Timo scored this whisky 72 points Expert Junior

nice mortlach, but there are much better ones.
    • Nose
grassy, woody, musty, dry fruits, fruity, sherry
    • Taste
peppery, bitter, sweet, round, malty, wood, liquorice, salmiac
    • Finish
warm, pleasant, oily, spicy, bitter, not so long

  6. Titi94 scored this whisky 72 points Connoisseur

    Bottlers note:

Fresh and fragrant with a distinct malty nose. Sweet with hints of candied fruits. Delicate Sherry influences linger.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Rich with cereal sweetness and warm barley. Apple blossom rises without effort and notes of malmsey and stewed fruits and Christmas punch emerge with spice and muffin.Palate: Quite full and quite sweet. The cereal notes return with a syrupy texture. Shades of sherried sultanas and notes of freshly cut fruit salad, hints of toasty oak with obligatory vanilla spice and peppery warmth.Finish: Long with the fruit and spice rising readily from the oak.
