Whisky Reviews for Bladnoch 1990 KiW

7 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.05 points

  1. Calmar scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Pleasant, "transparent" bolt, it is simple enough, but saturated and the depth is there - years of aging did not pass in vain, there is a lot of oak, but it harmoniously fits into the overall picture; fresh and invigorating, very drinkable, it seems stronger than it really is.
    • Nose
Open, juicy, lemon-cereal, lemonade, mineral tones, light confectionery notes, vanilla, cream, raw wood, thinner, wool.
    • Taste
Sharp, dense, lemon, oak, sweet and sour, a wave of red pepper, toffee, orange peel.
    • Finish
Sweet-oak, warming, tea with ginger, creamy notes, toffee, fudge.

Nose: Starts quite grassy with fresh mowed loans, then gets fruitier and woodier with some wood resin, and sweet fruit and honey, as well as vanilla and citrus.

Palate:Citrus notes as well as warm vanilla and fudge, with apricot, wood and a sweet fruit then a pinch of salty butter on toast.

Finish: Drying and bitter sweet, cocoa, and dark chocolate, with a woody ending, and some nuts.

  5. Magnus Hillman scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Beside this, I had a glass of Glen Keith 19 yo from Kintra Whisky that was more powerful and spicy. That contributed to my impression of this one as rather weak in the finish. Without the contamination of the Glen Keith I would probably have rated this higher (87 or even 88). I will try it again and alone if I will have the possibility.

    • Nose
Light and fruity, honey, vanilla. Baked apples?
    • Taste
Vanilla and icing sugar, honey, pears and soft citrus. I am thinking lemon topping on a cake rather than the lemon itself. A bit nutty but not as characteristic as in Clynelish for example, maybe nutella hazelnut spread.
    • Finish
Sweet and sour at the side of the tongue, not bad but not great either, had expected a greater complexity in the finish for a whisky at this age. The only thing that confirm the age in the finish is that it is slightly woody. A bit disappointed at the finish to be honest.

  6. KayMeertens scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Nice, but there are some cask strength OBs of the same age which are actually cheaper and which I rate a bit higher.
    • Nose
Honey, pear, grass, lime, vanilla, caramel, fig, white chocolate and floral notes. Wait a bit and it gets fruitier, peachy.
    • Taste
Honey, hay, lime, fig, milk chocolate, cappucino, grass, pepper, mint, and floral notes.
    • Finish
      Grass, honey, lime and vanilla.

  7. Erik Elixir scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

N: spicy - aniseed, creamy (advocaat), praline chocolate, coffee, peach and fresh baked cake - vanilla and custard
T: citrus, orange, mint, vanilla, oily, tea, spicy - white pepper and nutmeg
F: honey, malty, spicy, floral, some orange peel, dry and bitter
