For lack of a better way to describe it, this is a whisky with very obvious flavor. When you want Islay flavor and want it big, go for this one. That said, sometimes I don’t enjoy this too much when I pour it, I think mood has a lot to do with my enjoyment of this one.
    • Nose
      82 82
      Meat, peat, smoke.
    • Taste

Maybe a bit hard; somewhat herbal; a bit oaky and peppery; quite peaty and smoky; not terribly salty; a bit woody.
    • Finish
      82 82
Meat, warm, smoke/peat. The smoke fades into vegetation.

When you smell this whisky for the first time, your nose wings will fly wide open! A smell of soft thick smoke flies in with a bit of stale air, sweetness and the smell of earth.

Deeper in the whisky is clearly a little pepper.

The peat gives you a tap on your nose every time you smell it!

I also think the whisky smells a little bit salty and like a lemon.

    Time for the first sip.

Clear pepper on the tongue. A sweet gust of smoke slides through your mouth. That this whisky is well-surfaced is now very clear if it was not yet haha.

A bit overwhelmed by everything, I forget what I can taste. So another sip after it.

Clear the lemon that is present.

    Chocolate, menthol and fried bacon.

    Cinnamon and toffee

The longer you taste with this whisky, the more you can get out of it. Gosh, this is a pretty complex whisky.

The aftertaste builds itself nicely and then decreases. You will enjoy the high peat content for a long time to come! In the aftertaste, a coffee-like taste comes up for me every now and then, but the smoky really has the upper hand.

    My first real islay.
    I'm in love!

Ardbeg is classic Islay with all the intense peat, smoke, and salt you’d ever want.  A bit sweeter than its competitor, Laphroaig 10 Year Old, but only slightly.  I especially like the fact that it is not chill filtered and is bottled at 46%.  A craft presentation at a standard price.  Nicely done!
    • Nose
Creamy vanilla, buttercream, pepper, iodine, intense peat smoke.
    • Taste
Salt water, medicinal/iodine peat smoke, vague citrus peel, smoked fish, and vanilla extract.
    • Finish
Tingly, salty, coal tar, with more peat smoke.

    Simply a great Dram!

Visual: Pleasantly rich warm gold colour with great viscosity

On Nose: smoky sweet without the often found rancid bacon quality some highly peated malts present. Instead this nose is gentle with just enough peat to please yet allows the coming taste array to hint through.

On the Palate: Excellent marriage of honey and smoke; deep rush of anise at first swallow and a back taste of light coriander. Ends with a hint of raspberry essence in the lingering licorice. Full and well balanced; soft enough to truly enjoy without any added water even at 46%.

    Balance: ( 24/25)  Quite nice.

A solid whisky, from a well loved distillery.
    • Nose
(20/25) Lemons,  assorted vegetables (mostly cabbage and carrots), touch of smoke, with green apples and bacon.
    • Taste
( 19/25) Sweet, with a lemon candy flavor, touch of carrots, and light weight but mildly oily.
    • Finish
(23 /25) Is where this really shines, caramel and lemon sorbet, a slight touch of smoke, but a lot of animal fat goodness (mostly bacon but not exclusively).
