Despite of just 40% abv this one is pretty fresh and intense and there is a great balance of classic dried fruits and sherry wood with the right sweetness and hints of smoke. It's really very close to the old Macallans from the same decade. Fantastic stuff!
    • Nose
      97 97
Truck loads of dried fruits, plums, figs, prune, acacia honey, finest tobacco, whiffs of smoke, spices, nutmeg, cinnamon, sherry wood, also some cooked fruits and jammy notes - superb!
    • Taste
      96 96
Creamy, sirupy, just little punchy, again the full range of dried fruits, subtle sweetness, toffee and little coffee, more intense sherry wood, oriental spices, little smokiness - excellent
    • Finish
      95 95
Medium long, warm, little bit more tannic, but not drying

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

The nose is rich and full. There are notes of toffee sweetness and winter spice; cinnamon and cloves. There are hints of chewy oak with toasty vanilla and caramel smoothness. Notes of malty barley and dried fruits. The palate is well-balanced and rich. There are notes of sherried sultanas and dried, mixed peels. Apple peels and calvados emerge with notes of Bartlett pear. Some hints of toasted, dry cereals develop. The finish is quite long with a good spicy warmth.

    G&M Tasting Notes:

Medium bodied, the nose of this Speyside Single Malt is sweet and rich with hints of toffee and caramel. Mulled fruit and Sherry elements combine with subtle oak aromas. A complex array of flavours is revealed on the palate, as sweet Sherry flavours combine with hints of apples, pears and dry toasted notes.

Aroma: Sweet and full-bodied with hints of toffee and caramel. Stewed fruits and sherry with a hint of oak.

    Finish: Strong sherry.

Spicy and oily aroma, coffee, dark chocolate, red apples, cloves, nutmeg, mint, pineapple, lime, oak, orange juice, tea leaves, leather and lavender. It feels kind of odd this aroma. There is one light level with fruity aromas, and another with heavy sherry and spices, contrasting all the way. Liquorice sweet and soft tannic taste, ginger, mint, oak, unripe banana, mango, herbal tea, chocolate, coffee, hops, grapefruit juice and red currant jelly. Long, spicy, herbal and fruity end. Superb dram!

    • Finish
Long finish featuring burnt sugar, pepper and a hint of resinous/tannic notes
