    Bowmore 12y 2000/2012, 46%, The Whisky Mercenary, 42 bottles
Yes yes, this is mustache (with all sympathy for Movember), the first thing that strikes me is sweet fruit, rather than peat smoke and it is salty, two things that young Bowmore has a hard time ignoring. The associations of the sea, with in addition to salt also seaweed and oysters, and the soft peat smoke, are nicely contained by notes of sweet red apples, canned pineapple, banana and even some lychee juice. Quite sweet, in addition to the sweet fruit I also have candy sugar, marzipan, vanilla and candied ginger (stimulating sweet). Salted butter, leather and underlying a subtle but absolutely welcome mineral. Pretty complex for its age. All good. Soft and creamy on the tongue. Slightly more peat smoke than on the nose, as is often the case, but it is again the fruit that starts to run with the feathers. Peaches and the pineapple and lychee that I already had in my nose. A substantial amount of salt, and also some vanilla, candy and spices. The longer the more herbs. Ginger and licorice. Black olives? I think so. Medium finish, salty, smoky and fruity. Since this whisky is bottled at drinking strength, I don't add any water here, which I absolutely don't need. In many areas I find this all perfect. Complete my profile, peat smoke as added value. Price / quality is a topper. 89/100

This is a dangerously quaffable Bowmore for around 60 EUR. Very limited
    release. Thanks, J
    • Nose
The nose is typical of young Bowmore: all kinds of sea associations
(salt, oysters, seaweeds) and nice peat, hand in hand with apples, banana,
lemon and even mango and pineapple in this case. Some wet stones and a hint of
salted farmer butter. Becomes sweeter as it breaths with marzipan and vanilla.
      Sugar candy even. Nicely creamy.
    • Taste
Nice continuation on the palate. The peat is more prominent and the
whisky becomes bellicose. Again apples, pink ladies, that join the mildly
exotic fruit. Liquorice in full force. Ginger confit, light peppers and loads
      of brine.
    • Finish
The medium long finish emphasizes the salt and smoke, while the sweet
      fruit is never far off.
