Whisky Reviews for Caol Ila Natural Cask Strength
7 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 85.82 points
- That was too strong and unspectacular for me, much struck by the smoke.
- I was somehow disappointed with the one bottle I had. I thought I'd like it more than the regular 12 but this is one of those rare times a CS version doesn't impress me more. I should probably give it another chance sometime but it says something of the feeling I was left with that I haven't been in a hurry to do that.
Pungent nose, heavy alcohol that is dominant over the peat. Takes you a little while to get behind it. Then typical Caol Ila sweetness. Phenolic peat, a little different than I´m used from this distillery.
Powerful, overwhelming start. Burning down simply everthing. Heavy alcohol and peat combined with wonderful sweetness. Also rich spiciness and some oak as well. Peppery note. Some bitterness.
Long finish, sweet and spicy, kinda dry.
- At first when the bottle is just opened very medicinal at the nose (too much for me), but it gets better after a while (a few days / weeks) !
A good strong (58 %) whisky !
- N: pepper, nettle!, rubber, peat and some menthol
T: peat, smoke, butter, some curry, floral and liquorice
F: oily, earthy, spices - (speculaas) and (brown) sugar
