- Very smooth, slightly pungent, sweet and some chocolate.
- The Whiskyman - Classic Label Tasting Spring 2018 #WCY
sulfur (streaked matches), figs, nuts, leather, smell of a wet forest
honey, spices, red fruit, pepper, wood, tobacco
medium finish, spicy, wood, honey
- The Whiskyman Classic Label tasting @ April 7, 2018
Fruity, full of figs, cooked apples, oranges, raisins. Some leather and hazelnut tones.
Fig-bread with raisins, oranges, leathery tones, cooked apples, hint of coconut. Sweet and very powerful (spices). Turns more towards nutty and ginger after a while.
Long, stil quite sweet but with nice spicy tones and more berry like fruit tones with some wood tones. Hint of sulfur in the background.
It keeps surprising
me how good Macduff actually can be. Especially if you consider that it is the
signature malt in William Lawsons,
which I find to be less than mediocre. Weird.
The nose is sweet and
nutty on hazelnut, coconut and freshly sawn wood. Some caramelized apple, blood
oranges, a pinch of cloves and some woodsmoke. Fresh and crispy.
On the palate, this
is all apple, quickly followed by spices and a bit waxy. A tad mineral too. It reminds me of graphite, as in a
pencil. Slightly drying with
a salty touch. Does not need any water.
The finish is
surprisingly long and slightly bitter, on fruit cake.
- Another warm, juicy and spicy Macduff. A good daily sherry bottling, similar to the ones we've seen before. Buy it now and save it until the winter returns.
Nicely fruity and youthful sherry. Lots of oranges, cooked apples, figs, a little walnut liqueur and fudge. A few flinty notes as well. Some leather. Cinnamon.
Sweet and quite fruity again. Very raisiny, with figs and oranges again. Fruitcake and berries. Powerful and graceful at the same time. Evolves on chocolate notes, nuts and spices (pepper, ginger). Hints of coffee. Smoother and fruitier with a drop of water.
Long, still quite sweet with berries and plenty of drier spices now.
