Whisky Reviews for Balblair 2000
7 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 79.21 points
- nothing remarkable
earthy with grass (slightly bitter wood),
musky floral sweetness (highland), honey, grain, vanilla
vanilla, heavy cream, light fruits, caramel, neutral
short-medium, dry and spicy with slightly
sweet grain and wheat grass at the back and white wood
- Yes it’s young and lacks depth. But it’s also vibrant, fun and drinkable.
They bothered to put a vintage on the bottle (age is calculable) rather than create a fancy name and equal fancy story around this whisky. No instead Balblair gives you a natural coloured whisky with a vintage. I have to praise them for that.
I’ve tasted this in a horizontal tasting of the 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004. They are all quite similar but not the same.
A fresh, young, fruity and subtle whisky with aromas of fresh fruits (mainly apple and pear), floral tones, honey, hay, subtle vanilla, milk, fresh yeast, caramel, barley sugar, apple juice, hint of mineral tones and a faint smell of oak.
A fresh, young, slightly spiced whisky with aromas of apple, barley sugars, pear, vanilla, honey, candied ginger, white pepper, subtle cinnamon, bitter caramel, maple syrup, melon, subtle tannins and subtle oak
A medium long and slightly drying find with aromas of white pepper, vanilla, ginger, apple juice, pear and some oak spices.
- Nose : What a nice exotic fruit salad we got over here, some vanilla and honey too. during the tasting i described the nose as ‘Vanilla Ice cream, with some honey drizzled all over, and nuts on top’ quite poetic, i agree but very true. This young nose is very very pleasant and appetizing. i couldn’t wait to try some on the palate.
Palate: Sweet, honey, floral notes combined with hints of coconut , ginger and white pepper. The fruits are there also, a lovely melange that’s hard to pinpoint. all in all very fruity and spiced.
Finish : Smooth, long and fruity. Nice.
