First bottling of a Hazelburn. Only 5100 bottles.
Bottle purchased in 2006. The price has not soared. It looks like collectors have missed out on this edition, it's amazing.
Beautiful deep color. Surprising for a whisky aged only 8 years and without adding color. Certainly the sherry casks were of excellent quality and very active.
A whisky that you have to work on and that you have to come back to and not stop at the first impression. Finally it is very complete by the subtle alliance between land and sea (sherry and salt). A success.
At the opening of the bottle: very “clean” nose. Caramel, salt. Then wet stone, a little kelp.
After a week, new tasting: the sherry appears immediately. Very present. Then salt and caramel. Much better than at the opening.
Good length. Balance between the aromas of sherry and the tonic of sea salt.
