Still young whisky is obvious, as well as obvious quality distillation and potential. Simple and cute, although with noticeable alcohol notes at all stages.
    • Nose
      83 83
Chalk, sweet, grapes, wet cardboard, marmalade, pear, flower-meadow theme. Quiet and simple.
    • Taste
      84 84
Spices, smoke, smoked notes, oak, minerality, bacon. Pretty cute.
    • Finish
      84 84
Simple, warming, dries with oak, feels on the palate for quite a long time.

The aroma of whisky is very good for eight years of aging, but then noticeably simple and straightforward. Very "clean" alcohols, but from this "decontaminated" and light. Nearly lacking charisma. Breath of very close Ireland.
Campbeltown is a region committed to exploits. Will there be a new revived legend ?!
    • Nose
      82 82
Young, bright and fresh, sorrel, nettle, sweet rhubarb, green apples, candied lemon with zest, floral, drop of spirits, cranberries, vanilla, even dried apricots with sour yellow raisin somewhere. Is there sherry in the batch ?!
    • Taste
      80 80
Spicy, biting, pepper, felt oak, apples with peel and seeds, bitter berries such as viburnum. Young, green, not bad.
    • Finish
      78 78
The finish is short, simple, oak, fresh wood, unripe forest raspberry with astringent bones.

Malty, sweet and spicy aroma; smooth, very sweet, correctly sweet. Very good

Fresh apples. Light peat duo with malt, the latter intensifies. A background of tropical fruits and vanilla. Not very intense in volume, there are also unfortunately alcoholic notes. In the mouth, it's fruity, but the integration of alcohol remains mediocre. Final stiff and short. With a little water, the problem of alcohol is partially solved, but nothing crazy crazy. Final a little longer. Disappointing.

    Enthusiasm 2/5

    Whiskyfun:

Kilkerran 'Work in Progress 4' (46%, OB, 9000 bottles, 2012) Issued before they started to separate ‘bourbon’ and ‘sherry’ versions. Colour: white wine. Nose: blend kiwi and gooseberry juices, and then mature in clay (old Roman or Greek amphoras would do the trick). Season with a wee slice of Pirelli P-Zero, some iron filings, perhaps a little basalt powder, and presto, you have this little Kilkerran. Mouth: do the same, but add also some black pepper, some soot, and perhaps a smidgen of pili-pili chilli, African style. Almost forgot to mention grapefruit juice. And perhaps fresh walnut skins. Good, rather oily body. Finish: long, a little harsh, perhaps but some hints of fennel and more grapefruit save it. Comments: this batch was still a little rough and raw, and the pepper and chilli a notch too loud, perhaps, but it’s characterful spirit. I find it also rather funny to see how it echoes its remote cousin – not a business cousin mind you, new Benromach. Already very potent and assertive! SGP:452 - 88 points.

Huge fan of Springbank, huge fan of Kilkerran as well. Quality permeates the entire range.

    (Rating interval 85-88)
    • Nose
Butterscotch and vanilla fudge, mild peat and biscuits after a while. A rich nose that becomes more cereal after water with creamy vanilla and licorice to further add to the profile.
    • Taste
The arrival is steady and measured with malt sugar and vanilla. Salt peat smoke on the development with sweet licorice and vanilla sugar, bees wax as well. With water it becomes milder and more fruity, tangerines in particular.
    • Finish
Springbank kind of subtle and balanced peat smoke dominates the finish and is followed by vanilla sugar and citrus, lemon and tangerines.

Nose: Sweet and spicy, with hints of aniseed and liquorice. Even some marmalade!!Taste: Flavors of  toffee, fudge and vanilla/marmalade cake. Finish: Smooth, sweet, spicy and again.... a tiny bit of liquorice, hummm!

fascinating dram, very different, very engaging, very spring bank and quite cheap in the face of it's quality might i add.
    • Nose
oily waxy, very unique, sawdust and hickory chips rolled in olive oil, green apples, brown sugar, malty with a big farmyard thing going on. sooty too, like a fireplace outdoors after it rained.
    • Taste
aniseed, lemons, very waxy still, love this. distillery becomes obvious in the profile, gingerbread and a hint of kirsch.
    • Finish
soft quick finish, bitter oranges linger

    Tasted "blind".

On the nose, peat but not pharmaceutical.
In the mouth, not much and a nonexistent final.

    • Nose
Buttery toffee and bitter orange peel. Hints of cooked citrus, apple crumble,
baked apples with honey and cinnamon
    • Taste
      Zesty
and fruity palate with notes of Seville orange marmalade, gooey toffee, vanilla
custard, cinnamon whirls, candy floss and nutmeg
    • Finish
      Honey,
Demerara sugar, rum spices and star anise

Yet another year in the cask, maybe accidentally, but filled in the gaps of its predecessor. If there were any gaps of course.
    • Nose
Rich, dense, concentrated. Green fruit, a piece of ripe melon, that notorious powdery note once again (castor sugar?), candyfloss, sucrose, sucking candies.
    • Taste
Even and straight, sweet, zesty, lemon, mandarins, soufflé, table cream. Nothing bulges out there. Without any evident falls, abrupt careens. Medium-bodied.
    • Finish
Gradual, lingering, very smooth. Citrus, wax, verdure, herb tea, warm peppery wave in the end crowns the ensemble.

Well, if you`re a campbeltownfan, this is your stuff for a very reasonable price. Very balanced if you consider the age! Daily dram, if not, hourly dram

This is the best work-in-progress yet. They are really coming along.
    • Nose
Malted vanilla and a little yeast. Fruited barley sugars and a bucket of salty lemon juice.
    • Taste
      Malt, salt and lemon juice.
    • Finish
A lovely interplay between the salt and the sweetness. Still plenty of citrus here.

    Producer`s Notes

    Colour: Hay & straw
Nose: Home made marmalade. Incredibly rich with

copious amounts of oranges, rhubarb and ripe pear amongst the sweetness

    of brown sugar and honey.
Palate: The tangy and zesty nose continues on to the

palate and is enriched with the flavours of toffee, fudge and cream

buns stuffed with vanilla custard and coated with icing sugar. Finger

    licking good.

Finish: Sweet and spicy, with hints of aniseed and liquorice.
