  1. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Nice, Laphroaig works very well as an ex-Bourbon cask cleaning, for me plays in a league with the very good annual Cask Strength bottlings
    • Nose
Starts quite filigree for a Laphroaig, vanilla, apricots, light fruit sweetness, some bacon, the smoke only really comes through on the second attempt, but then classically medicinal, somehow someone is just opening an oven with freshly baked biscuits, overall simply pleasant, also a slight touch of wildflowers and grated lemon zest
    • Taste
Ok, the smoke is present here, sweet, creamy, vanilla, apricot, sticky, very sweet, lemons, therefore also slightly tart as a counterpoint to the sweetness, a pinch of cinnamon, quite straightforward Laphroa-like from bourbon barrels, with the second sip you also get butter biscuits right away Entry, more citrus, delicious
    • Finish
the sticky impression remains, smoke lingers on the palate, now also butter biscuits, still slightly fruity, all in all a pleasant light variant of the start

hot and peppery, fresh and mineral, camphor, medicinal smoke, seaweed, green plum, herbal tea

surprisingly short - only the iodine-smoke component remains present for quite some time

scbp-6565, the shortcoming reinforced version of the barrel is strong QC, the barrel is not strong, but the maturity is very high, the smell of Lemony is almost lacking, and the wine is strong. The aroma is full of warmth, the taste is full and the oil is smooth and refreshing, the bitterness of the end rhyme is very well processed, and the excellent contemporary Laforge is bottled!
    • Nose
      91 91
Vigorous ginseng soup, ginger ale, pastry icing, slightly green plums, green apples, mints, clear olive oil, slightly brown sugar, after the cup wakes up, the aroma has a very weak but very subtle creamy feel, medium smoke , Peat is full of vitality, and the medicine has a strong sense of bitterness. 91
    • Taste
      91 91
Plump smoked fat, tar, ginseng slices, sugar oil, green apple juice, ginger fragrance, yellow fruit, the sourness is notable but not playful, and then it is wrapped in a slight astringency and sesame pepper, transitioning to smoked grapefruit peel and tea Tangy taste. The taste is full and unconstrained, with a balanced flavor. The wine is medium to strong, with a strong oiliness. 91
    • Finish
      90 90
Yellow fruit aftertaste, bitter ginseng, warmth of ginger, dry, slightly astringent, slightly tannin, slightly sugary. 90

Laphroaig Cairdeas Origin 2012. Numbers-only rating at the distillery in March 2019, with just the following observation noted: A very easy-going release with aromas of banana and vanilla, and easy on the palate with impressions of sweetness behind the smoke. (3.45/82)

  8. serejja scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Very decent Laphroaig. I really wish it was a bit stronger though. Gentle peat and smoke, quite dry and oaky. Would be higher than 89 if it was a bit stronger and richer

The nose is good - smoke, bandages, hospital .. The taste is also good, a little weak in strength and the finish is not too long. In general, approx. 22-22-22-22

  12. LiquidThoughts scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Not super complex, but great aromatic and balanced Laphroaig.
    • Nose
Slightly warmed coal, heather, chestnut, walnut, camphor, dry apricot, earthy, aromatic, vanilla, a little black pepper
    • Taste
Slightly warm coal here too, lightly burnt toast with forest honey, lime peel, tannins, nice gentle salt, vanilla, a little peach with a core
    • Finish
Toasted malt, autumn leaves, pepper and salt, medium length

  13. markjedi1 scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

OMFG! What a delicious Laffie indeed.
    • Nose
Sweet and fruity nose on lime and apricots, cherries and banana. Wood shavings. Crème brûlée, rosemary. The whole is obviously wrapped in a smoky blanket of sweet peat. Oh, how beautiful Laffie can be at times…
    • Taste
It is mildly drying, smoky and complex on the palate. I get tannins, lime, pepper and nuts but also some citrus, ginger, salt, green herbs and… more salt. Yes, from the second sip on it becomes salty seawater! Apparently there is also a lost apricot in there somewhere...
    • Finish
The finish is long, dry and smoky with more oranges and play-doh at the death.

    • Finish
      Long. Smoke, herbs, dark chocolate.

The first two drams from my newly opened bottle would rate it a 86, but after 5-7 weeks of being open and oxidization taking hold this has developed into a beauty. Very well balanced; the noise is a salty-brine-smoke with vanilla in the background, the taste is so well balanced with salty cream, smoke with biscuit, vanilla a touch of lemon meringue, the finish has a touch of salty toffy. A real pleasant dram I must say!

Peated whisky as it's meant to be. 89/90.
    • Nose
Peaty, but in combination with a nice fruitiness. Orange and peach. A dusty touch, but a pleasant one, and some vanilla. Water adds some herbs.
    • Taste
Peat, orange, malt, peach, salt and herbs.
    • Finish
Peat, apricot, chocolate, orange and ehhh... shoarma?

  19. Segens scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

All in all a good Laphroaig which is not representing something special or outstanding that you might have never tried but is solid and tastes good. What else do you need? :)
    • Nose
smoke, sea, salty bacon, pepper, lemon

alcohol could have been implemented better
    • Taste
Citrus fruits, herbs, smoke and spicy pepper due to the alcohol
    • Finish
Very dry but long finish with a lot of herbs. Very nice!

  20. Allandale scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

    • Taste
Dry, oily and sweet notes. Again some fruit. Caramel, bitter chocolate, leather, tar, peat.
    • Finish
Long but dry. A grand final. A combination and of all together.

      Seaweed, iodine, plaster,oak etc.

  21. smaeksle did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

I think it's oldschool and somehow great, although it's not that complex in the mouth.
    • Nose
Medicated, little disinfectant smoked bacon, some peat smoke, pretzel, a little solvent and in the background some fruits and a little sherry.
    • Taste
Nice alcoholic onset, then first stress sherry and then a lot of bourbon influence. Peppery, rough and wild. Very tasty and relatively dry.
    • Finish
      Dry and short.

The smoky, very dry finale of this whisky is very special !!!
    • Nose
Barley wrapped in smoke and phenols, but also fruity notes like apricot.
    • Taste
Smoky, sweet and peppery notes. The taste is not perceived like other whiskys on the tongue, but rather by its dry nature next to the tongue.
    • Finish
Abrupt finish in the finish due to its dry nature. But still an interesting experience.

    Very good, even
though I find it hard to recognize Laphroaig in this.
    • Nose
      The nose is marked
not so much by the typical smoky character of Laffie, but offers mostly a very
sweet and fruity nose. Yep, a lot of sherry casks went into this release. Lime,
apricots, cherries, banana, wood shavings, toffee, pineapple on the grill,
caramel, pencil shavings, raw planks and so much more. Halfway through it even
becomes a bit bourbonny. Somewhat strange, but very nice. With a teaspoon of
water, it becomes sweeter still, like crème brûlée. But also somewhat greener
on garden herbs such as thyme and rosemary. Weird!
    • Taste
      The arrival is mildly
drying and again my first idea is sipping a smoky bourbon. How weird indeed!
Loads of tannins, lime, lemongrass and pepper. Nuts, too! It becomes a little
more creamy and less drying when adding a few drops of water.
    • Finish
      The dry, smoky finish
that lingers nicely plasters a smile on my face.

Nice Laphroaig. Sea weed, coastal smell and taste.

  30. FedeBosco scored this whisky 85 points Member Senior

Nose : immediately you feel the marine component, iodine, black pepper, an exuberant peat together with a well marked medicinal note. Then slowly emerges a softer side, caramel, caramelized orange, candied fruit. Licorice. Solid and powerful. Salt does not show signs of diminishing! Taste : strong and very salty mouth, fairly controlled peat, malt, lemon peel. Alcohol well present and controllable. Bitter cocoa and coffee in minimal quantities. Final : short but firm: salt, peat, iodine, malty and intense. Comment : a Laphroaig limited edition to "sun" 20,000 bottles, an opportunity to enjoy a different product from the usual. It should be said that the nose is very interesting but it comes down of several points with a palate not too elaborate where it is probably the alcohol to push and a mid-level final. The fault of the NAS? Evaluation : 85

  31. I_SPEY scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

    N: A little chocolate

T: Again the chocolate, with lots of peat; a very nice and subtle Laphroaig.

F: And finally with a peaty finish

    A STUNNER, a favorite in the Laphroaig`s..

A very good Laphroaig, although not the best Cairdeas. I love Islay Malts and above all else I love Laphroaig Malts.
    • Nose
slightly pungent, iodine, medicinal, woody, musty, sea, salt, seaweed, peaty
    • Taste
complex, bitter, salty, sweetish, round, malty, a lot of peat, tar, leather, a lot of smoke
    • Finish
very peaty, not so long finish, oelig, smoky, spicy, dry, warm

the taste was great but the nose sucks. very good whisky but I'd say it is too expensive for what it's worth.
    • Nose
a bit harsh on the nose; medicinal; vanilla; some ashes; iodine; hint of seaweed and muscles with the shells. Dark chocolate.
    • Taste
nice flavour; sweet and sour and a tad salty at first. Some nice creamy sweetness. Dark chocolate from the nose is present here as well.with water - oily mouth feel. touch of sweetness; spices; with time medicinal; hmm this is interesting - thyme and oregano (fresh)
    • Finish
      medium - spicy and some sweetness;

This is a real beauty. Please don't buy it as a collectors item. It's too good for that.
    • Nose
Peat and smoke, phenolic, citrus fruits, green apples, kaki. Sea breeze, like standing in the wet heather at the coast of Scotland (close your eyes, if you don't believe me)
    • Taste
Arrival without any phenol. That surprised me. But it comes after a while. Peat, smoke, it's sweet. Apples, salty lemon zest, liquorice.
    • Finish
      Very long. Salty. Lovely.
