    Why do the old wines of Genting all have heavy old leather taste, is it that the peat smell will deteriorate for a long time? ┑ ( ̄Д ̄) ┍Appreciation cannot.
    • Nose
      First round rubber, sea breeze, tanned leather, beeswax, second round mango, citrus, cherry, raspberry, banana, milk coffee, fat, oak, lighted cinnamon, lemongrass.

    Wonderful!

    Bottle code: 05:3926K4.

    Tasting with FineSpirits_butler1 in July 2016.
    • Nose
      Maltiness, mixture of tropical and bright fruits, oranges, Kiwi, fruits in alcohol, Papaya, apples, hints of banana - all these powdered with vanilla bean, chocolate-cream-liquor, working desk, old furnitures from the 50's, terpentin on wood, cigar leaves on wood, 'Oldtimer'-interior with leather seats;

      intense red jams (also on butter brötchen), very sweet and juicy tangerines, bright toffee, some beaf, jam-bullion cube mix, some honey, some Demerara, Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, coffee beans;

      pears, cherries, mild citrus peal, the sauce of a fruit salad - with salt & pepper, Minestrone with butter, distant noble milk chocolate, hints of coffee flavors, slightly sour Bratenmarinaden, also some Sauerbraten, smoky apricot, some Bergamot, old cigar box ...
    • Taste
      Mostly the same as in the nose. Additions:

      Powerful, intensive aromatic, 'old' stuff, very long development;

      more citrus and cake than in the nose;

      lightning house TOTAL!

      Also upholstery, fruit brandies, some smoke and bergamot …
    • Finish
      Motor and engines, Demerara, fruit sweetness, great cask/wood, aftertaste of mostly all aromas, metal on wood, salt (!), cellar, forest ground and mushrooms (Steinpilze!), not salted Cashews;

      apple compote, mint tea, some Cognac, dry wood ...

    Compared to the 1998 edition this one is more on the 'malty' side,

    and the nose is not as deep … - it's ruled by fruit and honey sweetness.

    But: what a wonderful Whisky !!!

    First tasting with FineSpirits_butler1 on the 2. of July 2016.

    • Taste
      Very balanced oak and sweetness with some fruitiness,touch of vanilla, very smooth
    • Finish
      Medium long, smooth and warm, just a tad bitterness and little grassy in the end but really not much

    Lighter and sweeter than the 1998 version.

    Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky

    These tall distillery 21yos were always big drams with elegant silky

    peat, wild green fruitiness, touches of oil, salt, sea air, lemon wax,

    metal polish, cereals and a hefty measure of luscious sherry to boot.

    Just marvelous whisky that everyone should try at least once in their

    lifetime. (w-o)

    This has long been one of my favourites but it's getting expensive and difficult to find. Glad I have some bottles stashed.
    • Nose
      Oranges, coconut, hazelnuts and chocolate. Thing is, every time I have this I find something new. This time it's exotic tropical fruits. Complex, then.
    • Taste
      How do I describe this? Tangerines today, with a coconut background. Some chocolate in there and a little pineapple
    • Finish
      Creamy and long with a lingering Bounty bar flavour after the citrus

  17. QuarterCentury scored this whisky 96 points Connoisseur

    For me too, absolutely one of the greatest malts i ever tasted and i was really proud to add this bottle to my collection!

  18. hsmithjr scored this whisky 96 points Connoisseur

    For me, this is my all-time favorite malt.  Too bad it is priced for collectors.

    Nose: Woody sherry, but not too woody.  Kitchen spice rack. Sultanas.  Stewed dark fruits, then citrus (sweet lemon mainly). Beach towels.

    Palate: Sweet, oaky, and fruity.  Yellow raisins.  Salty bread dough.  Candied honey.  Slight diesel fuel.

    Finish: Long and rather sweet.  More raisins, or dates? Blacksmith`s coal (if you could taste it).
