Nose

Sweet aromatics of fudge and muscovado sugar. Fruit compote and glacier morello cherries provide added complexity.

Taste

Rich dark and seductive. Remarkable flavours of stewed fruits and all-spice marry together with classical aged Oloroso and toasted walnut bread and chocolate orange.

Finish

Tremendously complex and long.

Comments

The famous GlenDronach 18 year old, now renamed Allardice, is the third expression in the GlenDronach core range. This exceptional single sherried malt is non chill filtered and of natural colour. Matured in the finest Spanish Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 46%, this sublime richly sherried malt is truly unforgettable.

Nose

Plum, dark cherry, orange, almond, raisin, coffee, tobacco, vanilla and candy cane. A little glue as well initially, which turns into ripe kaki and apricot later. The latter gives the impression that there's some stuff in here that's actually older than 18 years.

Taste

Plum, orange, cherry, mocha, kaki and raspberry.

Finish

Dark chocolate, cherry, roasted almond, orange and melon.

Comments

A lighter fruitiness than the more treacly 15- and 21-year-old. But when I compared this one to the earlier Lot5 from 2010, it is very apparent how much darker the profile of this batch is. Possibly a lot of 1993 whisky in here, which tends to have this character.

Nose

A little ‘darker’, except it is less balanced and, yet just as delicious as the nose of the Revival.

Taste

Strong fruit-cake aroma, with dark ripe berries and raisins. It is very sugary and drives salivation immensely. The tannins are a little more prominent in this one as the 18 years might suggest.

Finish

Similar to the 15-yo Revival – just as long, a little sweeter, and with more pronounced sherry notes.

Comments

I’m a GlenDronach fan. Its quality is impeccable and so far, all of their whiskies have hit my sweet spot. Highly recommended!

Nose

Cocoa, molasses, tar, teak oil, vanilla, a thin smoke veil appears, bassets wine gum and banana.

Taste

Spicy, figs, rum, chocolate fudge and christmas sweets. Water makes it sweeter

Finish

Long smooth and mouth coating finish.

Comments

One dram blind note. The ultimate whisky for enjoying on a boat

Nose

Just like the 15yo and 21yo Glendronachs, this has a wonderful nose. Fruits and brown sugar come to the fore with the addition of water, with walnuts and a whiff of smoke in the background. Perfectly balanced. Quite dry on the palate, and not quite as rich or complex as the 15yo `revival` (which just about remains the pick of the standard range for me). Medium-long finish. A lovely dram!
