Whisky Reviews for Glen Elgin 1985 DT

3 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.20 points

  1. lachaineduwhisky did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Nose with caramel, vanilla, sweetness. Very rich too. More and more, same. In the mouth, creamy and suave, the integration of alcohol is perfectible. The rich side is really appreciable and is even more intense in the finish, vanilla and sweet. It is at the same time very good but also hyper classic. I had a good time, but rereading these notes in a month, I will have forgotten what it was.

    Enthusiasm 3/5

    Tasting made blind.
    • Nose
First nose from the very nice opening on tea, hints of honey, it does not feel absolutely alcohol, very accessible at once. There is a pretty floral side too. There is some rapped apple that is just beginning to oxidize. The nose loses some of its softness to evolve towards something more powerful. The scents disappear a little in favor of the wax. Not at the point of the Clynelish, but enough to be detected.
    • Taste
The mouth has good texture, not at all watery, it attacks nicely on a honey sweet enough to quickly give way to wax, a little spice in the second part of the mouth. We also find and by keys the tea of the beginning.
    • Finish
The finish was at first rather short but it extends as the tasting towards a slightly salty and peppery notes, we find the fruity notes of the nose and the wax.

  3. hartist scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

The nose remains the most beautiful part, the rest being a little handicapped by too much dilution.
    • Nose
Round, balanced with a beautiful material. Exotic fruits, honey, sweet spices, orange zest, vegetal scents, light varnished tip compose a pleasant nose.
    • Taste
Soft attack, notes of vegetal bitterness and sweet fruits that clash with an alcoholic return and a second part of mouth more melted with a beeswax.
    • Finish
Long enough, marked by bitter orange zest, somewhat tarnished by a too strong weakening.
