Very powerful and complex - definitely water needed - fantastic!

Seabreeze, salty, iodine, truck loads of smoked ham and bacon, whiffs of vanilla, bananas, little citric, dry way, cigar tobacco, bonfire, also some seaweed and smoked fish, band-aid - great!
    • Taste
      94 94
Very punchy, creamy, little sweetness, more salt, lemons, smoked fish and seashells, also a bit meaty, cold cigar ashes, charcoal, lots of peat, herbal notes - excellent!
With water: more fruitiness and sweetness
    • Finish

Long, burning, zesty, spicy, herbal - water recommended

    Colour:
    sunlight
    Nose:
Soft on the nose, but at the same time also with a certain sharpness of lemon and lime slices in salty breading. The peat content is enormous and the farmy notes of cowshed and hay greet each other. Vanilla in perfect form with green-yellow fruit flavors of mirabelle plums, yellow apples and some marzipan.
    Taste:
Soft, salty, spicy and ultra spicy, then peat, peat, peat - the phenols roll over! The yellow fruit announced in the nose unfolds here sensationally with mirabelles, yellow apples, limes and soft lemon. Now, vanilla, toffee and delicious cereal notes - and this taste experience is done!
    Finish:
Very long - peaty, smoky and still provided with a powerful phenol content. Leather, grains and malt notes with vanilla, cream, white chocolate and the lingering fruit notes of lime and apple.
    Comment:
Definitely no comparison to current bottlings of this age !!!

[September, 2016]  I had this dram during a "Lagavulin Bicentenary" tasting at Bonn.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 95.  I took no detailed notes.

oily, nose dull - closed G: more smoke than fruit, first warm then sharp, finish long but reserved, + H2O: becomes sweeter, Departure astringent - dry! + H2O: finish even drier, definitely not a flatterer
