The bottle I own was bought by the previous owner in May 1999 for 52,50DM. The back of the packaging shows "The Internationional Wine & Spirits Competition Gold Award 1996".

All the hallmarks to be a good malt, maybe just a little flat. Would benefit greatly from 46 abv. That said some nice elements and easy drinking.
    • Nose
      85 85
Honey, apricots, white pepper, floral, peach
    • Taste
      82 82
Thin, not complex, but nice flavours of honey, apricots, wispy smoke, cracked pepper, soft wax
    • Finish
      80 80
      Short, watery, peaches and cream

  13. ErrHaBe scored this whisky 80 points Expert Junior

A very pleasant malt, easy to drink, not overly complex.
    • Nose
Mix of light and dark fruits (ripe apples, figs and raisins). Citrus aromas (bitter orange marmalade), fruit gum, light wood, violets and honey. Very harmonious and pleasant.
    • Taste
Honey sweetness, fruit gums, fruits, violet pastilles, fresh wood. Alcohol beats on the tongue. Harmonious and mature.
    • Finish
Long and warm. Harmonious. Sweetness, which is then replaced by a certain dryness. Pleasant barrel notes that remain fruits.

  17. Mr.Sandwich scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
For 40% ABV he is strong. Elegant and complex for a 12 year old. Peaty sea breeze with dried fruits, barley malt and some toffee.
    • Taste
Begins fruity and salty - very delicate. Herbs, peat and seasoning in harmony with the fruit. A slightly higher ABV would have done well for this Scapa. He still seems relatively strong and not watered down.
    • Finish
Salty peat with fruit basket slowly fade away.

This bottle had been open for a while. A clear cardboard presence, quite some alcohol seemed evaporated (though it was only bottled at 40).

A tender, briny smoke. Neutral honey tones, crumbly apple. Lost its power, not much else. No spice present like in HP.

Scapa, the distillery of ever-changing "standard" releases. 12, 14, 16, next back to NAS? This 12-year-old version is nicely sippable with sweetness, fruits and slight cardboard-ey notes, but the low bottling strength of 40% makes it an overly diluted and slightly weak experience.

A fresh meadow meets honey. Sweet whisky with a quiet nature, more complexof the notes are the background, this dram is soft and pleasant to drink.
