Whisky Reviews for Highland Park 1976

3 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 92.46 points

  1. franpincoffee scored this whisky 95 points Expert Senior

Another gem in the Orcadian Vintage series, with a fruity nose full of mango and honeydew melon notes, a buttery touch, and hints of heather and gorse. The taste is floral and heathery with honey, coconut, and almond notes. The finish has notes of dried flowers, a touch of wood, and a hint of honey.

  2. mds51 scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Fruity light, honeydew melon, heather, papaya, peach, mango, blossom honey, ripe apples.
Far in the background a touch of barrel and smoke.

Another HP where you want to smell for hours :) fruit compote without end
    • Taste
Light smoke plays around the palate, light, fruity, a barrel.
Honey, sweet yellow fruits (honeydew melon, peach), floral notes (the typical heather HP note is included), roasted almonds
    • Finish
Honey and a certain spiciness on the barrel which carries some bitter notes.

Released in December 2011, the 1976 Vintage is the fifth release in the Orcadian Vintage Series. The result of lengthy maturation in American oak, this Vintage delivers a lighter, tropical fruit and floral flavour, combined with the classic Highland Park sweet, smoky balance. The 1976 Vintage is taken from total of thirteen casks, a mix of butts and hogsheads, to create 893 bottles of a distinctly Highland Park whisky but with softer finish. The box illustration for this 1976 Vintage celebrates Orkney’s Scandinavian heritage, inspired specifically by an 11th century silver brooch in the Urnes style.

    Tasting Notes by Highland Park
    • Nose
Light, fresh fruit such as melon and mango, freshly cut resinous wood. A wonderful butter hint arrives late then the classic heather sweet note.
    • Taste
Very floral to start, reminiscent of the heather fields of Hobbister Moor in bloom, marzipan and coconut, and ending in a honey coated almond.
    • Finish
Lingering notion of balance between wood and cream, neither in the ascendancy, smooth violet softens the finish.
