  1. GlenSikkes did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    Tasting Notes by Adelphi;

    1 of only 284 bottles from cask no. 3070

    Matured in a refill European ex-sherry hogshead, this has taken on a deep golden hue. A mild nose feel, with Werther’s Original caramels – rich, rounded and smooth. This develops into custard cream pudding, then steamed sponge pudding. An unctuous texture with crème brulee and crème caramel becoming more toffee-like with a hint of molasses. The addition of a little water brings fresh custard poured over a flapjack biscuit base;  later some bosky traces, and quite mineralic. Surprisingly well balanced for its age, this is European oak maturation at its most appealing – toffee and homemade tablet in the finish.

    Alcohol initially just a little too prickling in the nose, furthermore a delicious dram.
    • Nose
      leather, rubber. sweet too, caramel, honey, vanilla. Initially the alcohol is strong, later softer. The smell is also candy-like.
    • Taste
      Strong, pepper. Honey, leather, caramel. Again a bit sweet, a bit of Haribo experience.
    • Finish
      Light peppermint still, firm, sweet, honey. Wood tones. Pretty long, warming, some candy.

  5. St. Pauli scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

    A rather disappointing dram: too hot and tannic.
    • Nose
      Slightly sulphuric and alcoholic, with obvious sherry notes of raisin, other dried fruit, wet wood, and dunnage warehouse. Behind that, there is old leather, orange juice, malt, honey and a hint of fresh fruit.
    • Taste
      Quite alcoholic and hot when neat. There is an abundance of sour orange juice, tangerine, pepper and clove. With water, it gets quite tannic, bitter with loads of ginger and wood.
    • Finish
      Stays on orange, tangerine, with a lot of spices, tannins, and a little dried fruit.
