I tasted this at the Witc 2012 and I immediately fell in love with this Strathisla. Thanks for the sample Rik!
    • Nose
Wow, what a nose! Stewed fruit. Raisins, figs and prunes. Lots of juicy sweetness in combination with herbal notes. Some mint as well.
    • Taste
Strong infuence of sherry and oak, Dark coffee and chocolate. Menthol again, but also hints of anise. Strawberry? Very complex.
    • Finish
      Long and spicy. Liquorice.

I have never experienced such a concentrated and versatile aroma bomb.
    • Nose
full of sweetness, warm intense sherry - yes, almost a sherry bomb, English fruit cake, plum pudding, dried sweet plums, freshly baked intensively scented red wine cake, intense aromas of freshly baked semi-liquid chocolate cake of dark chocolate, extremely intertwined taste tones, dark melasselastiger old rum, Muscovado Cane sugar, some myrrh, vintage port, age excellent cognac
    • Taste
balsamic thickened sweetness, liquid light caramel, the alcohol is perfectly integrated, the sweetness and pleasant warmth fill the mouth slowly, it develops from the mighty sweetness a spicy and robust but pleasant oak bitterness, the sweetness comes back gradually, light approach of green lightly roasted cardamom
    • Finish
Now the oak bitterness takes over while the sweetness lingers in the background as a distant hint, Black Cavendish tobacco, freshly smoked whistle with high-quality tobacco.
The whisky needs no dilution with water due to its perfectly integrated alcohol, despite its barrel strength.
If you add something to it, Amarena cherries + Amarone wine from dried grapes open in the smell additionally in sugar syrup
The finish is eternally long. Even after 20 minutes, my mouth is filled with the aromas of a freshly smoked pipe and old sherries

Gloomy, rather vintage-heavy Strahi bottled for 2012, has its highlights, a bit too stale for me for more points.
    • Nose
Mushrooms, boletus, damp cellar, old book pages, slightly rotten milk chocolate, freshly ground cocoa powder, liquorice, chamomile, some charcoal, manuka honey, dates, vanilla, pralines
    • Taste
Lots of chocolate in the cellar, lots of leather, tobacco, chestnut, liquorice, dates, chamomile, coffee powder, fennel, camphor, Earl Gray, raisins
    • Finish
Raisins, matches, tobacco, leather en masse, long, oregano

next to a delicious sherry profile the nose shows some interesting mints. Further more stewed fruits, lost of chocolate, coffee, bit of earth, and old furniture wax. the finish is long, with great thick wood tones and nicely layered. great dram!

I tried this whisky at the Whiskyfest in Biberach. One of the best sherry whiskys I have ever had in the glass!
