    Note by Wilson & Morgan;

    A well balanced match between Macallan and the quirky and colourful fragrance of Marsala! In spite of the obvious influence from the Sicilian wine, it actually doesn’t seem too different in overall style from the classic Macallans matured in Oloroso sherry. The nose seems slightly subdued at first, but soon toasted winey and sweet notes become evident, together with a touch of cinnamon. It’s on the palate, though, that the contribution of the sun-dried Marsala grapes shines with a wonderful interplay of sweet, sour and spicy. Slightly oaky, with a touch of mint and camphor and a background of chestnut honey, it’s very intense and full bodied: its boldness is striking, with the Marsala finish complementing the character of the spirit.

    In general, I like to find these notes of rancio in a whisky, except that there is much too much for my taste. Also lack of complexity.
    Tasted blind
    • Nose
      Moderately intense. On praline, nuts, and a slight rancio that will take a lot of scale during aeration. There is also a bit of pep that is provided by some citrus touch. It's simple but interesting
    • Taste
      Again, the rancio is present but it's a bit much for me. Limit sweet too, suddenly the balance is not great. Too simple. There is a weird finish behind that, marsala style?
    • Finish
      Long, much more spicy with nice notes of pepper.

    Blind test
    • Nose
      Discreet at the start. Some sulfur notes (scraped matches). Develops
      nicely with aeration. Demonstrates nice fruity, a little quince paste,
      but mostly red fruits, wood, lots of cocoa. Some coffee. All markers of
      whisky aged in sherry casks. A the end, a very expressive nose.
    • Taste
      Fairly concentrated despite a low alcohol content. Acidity of the red fruit and bitter wood.
    • Finish
      Long, on cocoa
