Whisky Reviews for Clynelish 1997 WM

5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.30 points

  1. Malt Hans scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Peaty and malty aroma, heather honey,

espresso, burnt almonds, lime, banana and malt. Vanilla sweet and smoky

taste, sweet mustard, horseradish, liqourice, ripe grapefruit, malt and

herbs. Long, spicy and malty end.

  2. GlenSikkes did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    Note by Wilson & Morgan;

A classic Wilson & Morgan release, a match made in heaven: the robust and unique malt from Clynelish, with the added wonderful sun-bathed fragrance of Marsala from Sicily. Few whiskies are as suited to Marsala finishing as Clynelish, although the final result is not always the same. In this edition, there is a delicious contrast between dryness and sweetness, between honey richness and a more astringent nutty character. But there’s more: the highly perfumed, almost floral, aromas are well matched by ripe apples and candied oranges, while in the background the usual waxy and mustardy flavours of Clynelish can be found.
Very intriguing, and definitely as flamboyant as one should expect from such an unusual bottling.

  3. Rom did not rate this whisky Expert Junior

The marsala is very clearly present in the nose and mouth and a hint of sulfur. A little wax on the nose but no alcohol. The attack is powerful. Simple. The average finish is slightly bitter. Atypical but the mouth is a little disappointing because of the mixture sulfur / bitterness.

  4. Bishlouk scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

On the nose I find family tunes with the Clynelish 14y OB: sea air, citrus. Added to this are the honeyed sweetness of the finish and the hints of coffee grounds. Scents of black cocoa coffee appear a little later.

The palate is first honeyed, quite sweet and sweet. The acidity of citrus tickles the tip of the tongue.

The finish is very spicy (sea salt and white pepper).

A very good Clynelish overall, but not in the typical waxy profile though. Be careful though, it can sometimes be disgusting on the end.

  5. Ikkakumon scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Not the best Clynelish I have tasted, but it remains a very correct dram.

EDIT 2nd tasting (bottle opened for a few weeks): it seems much better at the second tasting, it seems to have more body with a stronger attack, very good after aeration dram.

    • Taste

    • Finish
