Nice part, very versatile. After you have it on the tongue, the nose changes enormously, is much spicier, the Moder is then completely missing. Good old times.
    • Nose
Sweet smell of musty, slightly putrid, rotten wood, dark fruits that are already a lot over it. Then it turns off, the mold and the musty become weaker, the dark berries are now just beautiful ripe. Discreet smoke, milk chocolate, now pepper is added. And another twist, now dried fruits: raisins and figs.
    • Taste
Heavy and bitter sweetness of fermented grapes, direct clear logging, dark chocolate. Again you have to work out the smoke first, it comes out. He grows fast, but the fruits are still swinging in the background. Again pepper after some time, on the tongue but also spicy paprika, almost chili, cloves, bay leaves. And then comes the violet.
    • Finish
Medium to long, smokier than at the beginning, peppery, lots of cocoa, some cinnamon, blackberry jam.

Tasted this one in 2011 with a friend. Back then quite a different Bowmore from what I knew

  7. Calmar scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

A fine example of a perfumery-phenolic base with a finish in port, an excellent balance, everything is very close and one, but at the same time it is clearly visible where the base is, where the port is; the only negative for me is some oak strength in taste and finish.
    • Nose
Rich, open, ruby porto, smoky smoked tones, sweet grapes sunny in the sun, iodine-naval notes, hard coal, light fruity and perfume notes in the background, raw leather goods, weak wood-resin shades, smoked bacon, smoked abdomen salmon.
    • Taste
A pronounced ruby, the first moments of almost pure porto - grapes, sweetness, then a lot of bitter astringent oak, peppery wave, candied ginger, smoke, peat, burnt crackers, burnt sugar.
    • Finish
Spicy oak, astringent, bitter, blackthorn, unsweetened Irga, light pitch notes, red currant compote, ginger, grapefruit crusts, caramel.

  9. Allandale scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

    Body: soft, textured,lightly, toffeeish.
    • Nose
      Sooty smokiness. Warmth. Nice.
    • Taste
      Smoky and fruity, very lively.
    • Finish
      Leafy, peaty. Slightly chewy.

  10. rottendon scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Two great old Bowmores. The Dawn is the more pleasing and rounder, the Voyage the more complex and in the mouth then fuller of both. Both are beautiful representatives of port-finished or matured whiskys, in which the port notes are fully integrated, and do not look set in the beginning.

Notes from an Online Chat Tasting (Parallel Tasting with Bowmore Voyage (217))
    • Nose
Vollfruchtig the beginning, otherwise nothing else. Still very powerful after life. The fruit notes are now quite a bit. Moist earth, musty cellar, now something hearty builds up, salty smoked meat, Sauerbraten. The all-determining remains however earth and cellar. Now late and warming, the fruits come back, quite acidic. Fully warmed, it looks a bit sourish medically.
    • Taste
Sweet / salty with a thick mouthfeel, almost syrupy. A hint of menthol still emphasizes the light cough syrup character, the smoke is fully integrated, hardly any tannins.
    • Finish
Pretty long, he goes relatively meaty, until at the end the ashes remain on the tongue.
