Whisky Reviews for Girvan 1984 SMWS G7.3

  1. Armando did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

SMWS tasting notes Color: honey-bronze The fragrance starts with popcorn and a round of butter toast with heather honey and apricot jam. Freshly printed glossy magazines, chocolate, Werther's original candies and caramel cream. Still sweet, but surprisingly fiery and spicy, with pencil shavings, cardboard and brown envelopes. After adding water, the scent was fuller and creamier, reminiscent of toffee, cartons of old books, leather and pineapple pieces. There was also a slightly bitter tannic taste, along with spicy, woody notes, dried flowers (lavender and roses) and the warmth of white pepper. This distillery in Ayrshire started production in 1964. Drinking tip: Add water sparingly!

  2. The Macallan scored this whisky 78 points Connoisseur

This one was tasted during my visit at the SMWS in Edinburgh. Toffee yes, glossy magazines not really. It was more like a sweet surrender, but surely an interesting dram to taste.
