Seeing that this bottle has been gathering dust in my cellar for ages (wel, sorta), my expectations were quite low. Hence they were exceeded with flying colors. This is a lovely, summery whisky.
    • Nose
No OBE at all, which is good news. In fact, this is very fresh and lively on the nose. I get all kinds of tropical fruits like pineapple, melon, peach on syrup and juicy pears. What a pleasant surprise. Add some honey and vanilla, as well as a touch of eucalyptus. Fresh and summery nose. Fun!
    • Taste
It is somewhat oily and honey-sweet. Good acidity. The tropical fruit is joined by loads of citrus. The spiciness becomes louder as the wood rears its head. Midpalate it becomes a bit dry on ginger.
    • Finish
In the finish – between short and medium long – the fruit seems to go down a caramelized path. It dies a mildly bitter death.

It was a real pleasure to nose this whisky. It's very complex and very well integrated. The taste and finish are dryer than the nose could suggest, but it's all within limits and pleasant.
Overall: a nice old and dignified whisky, although it matured not too long in casks.
    • Nose
furniture polish, wax, honey, malt, vanilla, coconut, pineapple, melon, peaches on syrup and dried fruits. Then there is a combination of toffee and sugar syrup. Finally, there are soft spices (cinnamon) and eucalyptus. It's all very well integrated and dignified, an abslolute pleasure.
    • Taste
medium-bodied, oily, not so sweet. Instead, it's rather dry but pleasantly. The taste is honeyed, fruity, but with eucalyptus, vanilla and some ginger.
    • Finish
nice acidity and bitterness in a finish that is medium of length. Some dried fruits, melon, herbs and spice.

My only criticism of this is the fact it it a little dry but quality is good for an 8 year old. This bottling along with others I have open show that standard offerings in the 1970`s and 1980`s are way better than today and the reason I buy them whenever I can

Even in its day this would have been an entry level malt but quality is high.
    • Nose
Light and fruity on melon and pineapple with hints of honey and pear.
    • Taste
Quite full bodied for an 8 year old and mouth coating. I get some honey and dry spices including a little ginger There is also fresh sweet pastry and a little cinder toffee.
    • Finish
      Medium length and slightly sweet.
