N- Inviting and solid cocoa powder with elegant floral and tinged of earthiness, sour plum, green apple and nutmeg.

P- Pleasantly sweet. Raisin and pomelo fruits building up graciously on the palate. Mellow and matured, creamy texture.

F- Long. Peppery with a return of delicious spices.

Very grainy, it looks a little unripe, but it also has a bit of bitterness and so it could be an AS, I do not like it, especially because the whisky is 'hot'.

As part of a blind tasting tasted
    • Nose
Vanilla, some citrus, pear, some cereals
    • Taste
Here is some alcohol, cereals, oatmeal, malt, vanilla, very sweet, slightly bitter, in general, the whisky is 'hot'.
    • Finish
The grain remains, a little vanilla and a slight bitterness

Dispensable. Too young, too snappy, too boring, thanks to the bitterness is not even tasty. Notes from a blind tasting.
Hm, because my impression is clearly removed from reality, that is not youthful bitterness, these are sucked out barrels. I will give this occasion a second chance, even if the left with me a very bad impression.
    • Nose
Bright fruits, vanilla and honey immediately. After standing more honey, mirabelle. Warms up more intense, in principle the same flavors, slightly sour citrus and some floral herbaceous come along. The alcohol is now tingling.
    • Taste
Honey, mint and quite sprittig, is quite bitter, looks very young, metallic.
    • Finish
Super short, no problem, was too bitter anyway.

The nose is downright classic for a single malt matured in bourbon barrels and delivers exactly what I expect from such a whisky, everything looks harmonious and mature, but it lacks that certain something that would make it special. The taste is the consistent continuation of the smell. Overall, this is a rock-solid whisky with no special recognition value.

    blind tasting
    • Nose
sweet ripe lemon and green apple, caramel, some almonds, in the background sawdust and earth
    • Taste
strong onset, creamy body, hot on the tongue, followed by lemon and apple again, followed by clearly recognizable oak
    • Finish
Bitter oak, a reminder of the almonds from the smell, but the oak dominates, quite long

  7. Dris scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

This whisky has a lovely style and character. Its aromatic, but not over the top. Balblair has a floral style which -thanks to the years- transformed into a aromatic floweriness. It't got sweet spices (vanilla, ginger, clove), oakiness, and a original character building up its complexity.

Nose: Immediately love the profile here. A light latex paint kind of top note and the smells of older casks and slightly dusty wood (very nice!). Bread dough. Creamy custard. Vanilla and ginger. Sugar cookies. Some jam, and maybe a hint of orange and cherry. Faint smoke (just from cask charring, perhaps?). A touch of florals. Lots of clean cask, spicy notes. Very nice overall.

Palate: Fruit skins. Toasted marshmallow. Vanilla and cinnamon (from a clean bourbon barrel?). Somewhat drying and almost tannic as it fully develops. Nice mix of fruity notes: orange peel, apple and something a little more bland…faint pear, maybe?

Thoughts: Tasted blind. I guessed there was some age on this one. Around 20, I thought (and it seems to be either a 22 or 23 year old, as mentioned). I also thought this was likely at cask strength. Wrong there, but it is at a respectable 46%. I should note…there is more going on on the nose than the palate, unfortunately, but it is a good dram nevertheless.
