    Pure quality.
    • Nose
I am not sure about the nose there seems to be a few off notes that remind me of lemon & lime. The peat is there and it is quite an elegant peat, plum skins, apple and some nice grapefruit now maybe that was what I was thinking was an off note?

Further nosing there is now a few coffee notes and I do not think there are any off notes, just not what I was expecting.
    • Taste
Wow that is fruity, yes like the nose suggested there is definitely some lime in there with grapefruit, mango and kiwi fruit mixed with custard and cream.

The kiwi fruit grows as does the cream and more line comes in, this is a fruit salad and yes the peat is there and its quite strong but the fruit is so massive it keeps it inn the background

Brilliant, the peat, fruit and sherry are wonderfully balanced here.
    • Finish
      Long, fruity and creamy

[July, 2022] Last night we did another of these 3M-tastings (Mega-Monster-Marathon) in memoriam of good old Roland (R.I.P.) who introduced me into the wonderful world of single malt whisky: Six people, six hours and sixty drams (small measures only, because otherwise we would have ended up at the hospital).

In such a setting it is neither possible nor does it make any sense to write detailed notes hence take my scores with a grain of salt. This was the menu after a "warm-up" with four private cask samples (not rated):

No more drams this evening! And please remember: Whisky was rather made for drinking than for herding...

    Laphroaig 27
yo 1967/1994 (50.1%, Signatory, cask #2957, 208 bottles) Colour: pale gold. Nose: wowie, this is
totally amazing again, albeit quite different from the Cadenhead’s. Even bigger
and even more medicinal upfront, with huge notes of cough syrup mixed with
orange marmalade but also less peat smoke. It really has something of the famous
10yo for Bonfanti, only at cask strength. Again, we have a little butter, then
seaweed and seashells, then lemons, then hints of kippers, then myriads of other
fruity notes (passion fruits just like in the 12yo, guavas, kumquats, small
bitter cherries...) Extremely dense, concentrated and totally dazzling. Amazing
(I think I’ll really run short of laudatory adjectives). Mouth: holy lama! It’s
all there in a big basket, oysters, pepper, peat, lemons, oranges, tangerines,
spices, butter pears, salt, quinces, citrons and dozens of other flavours. And
the whole is so powerful! Now, if we really want to be a bit more analytical,
this one is a little less complex than the Cadenhead’s but more full-bodied and
more ‘direct’. And no need to tell you about the finish, it’s so long and salty
that it may get embarrassing if you have to meet with important people in the
following hours. So, is it better than the Cadenhead’s? Less good? Nah, the very
same rating will do. SGP:678 – 96 points.

    http://www.weinkenner.de/2013/geburtstags-tasting-mit-vier-exquisiten-whiskys-von-laphroaig-26604/ Color: corn yellow
Nose: Much, lots of salt and a lot, lots of smoke, dry leather, lemon, very medicated-maritime with smoky wood. In addition, ripe bitter oranges with notes of canning gum.
Taste: Direct full steam! Transition to a salty orange-lemon mix with sprawling peat. Vanilla, butter and caramel sweets are spreading. Fantastic! Getting drier with freshly ground pepper, which turns into the finish.
Finish: very long. Very salty maritime smoke and lots of peat. With an accompanying fruity orange sweets, which remains constant until the end.
Note: You should have tried this Laphroaig!
