Using a combination of malted and unmalted barley, Green Spot is a prime example of triple distilled, traditional Irish Pot Still whiskey. Sweet apple cake, freshly cut grass and cereals feature prominently on the nose, and there are hints of pineapple, avocado and burnt cookies. After a light and floral arrival, the taste develops more grainy and yeasty with peach juice, fine spices and a touch of lemongrass. It's a bit thin and watery at times. The finish is moderate but altogether pleasant with mild oak, vanilla and licorice. This stuff is dangerously drinkable!

Very smooth and inoffensive whiskey, but unfortunately lacking some punch. I have had the Château Léoville Barton wine cask finish version of Green Spot as well and that is significantly more interesting and memorable.

The nose is very pleasant for an irish SPS, but I expected a little better for the sum.
    • Nose
Floral. Green apple peel, virgin mojito, apricot jam, citruses, spices and varnished wood.
    • Taste
Soft and slightly thin. Green apple, spicy oak, vanilla and grain.
    • Finish
      Medium length, spicy, fruity.

Quite a good Irish potstill whiskey. Not top of the shelf, but rather good stuff and a recommended daily dram.

A lot of sweet notes, caramel, fudge and some vanilla ice-cream. It is a bit delicate, but that's normal. There is a hint of freshness in the background, but it's only little.
    • Taste
      85 85
Sweet, creamy, caramel, vanilla, again the ice-cream. A biscuit. Touch of leather and wood.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium length. Very much caramel, hint of flowers, very friendly. Hint of chocolate, tiny bit of laurel. Fades away with some wood notes.

Would I rather have this or Redbreast 12? It‘s a toss-up, really, and depends on the day / mood. Elite Irish whiskey, in any case. Highly recommended.
    • Nose
Fresh! Guava and grapefruit, creamy with an underlying pot still spicyness that reminds me of bread crumbs and „dusty grains“ (if that makes sense). Further in the background: cloves and anise. Very nice combination of fruit and spice.
    • Taste
Incredibly smooth and silky at first, then takes a turn into refreshing, juicy, sweet-sour fruitiness before becoming seriously spicy (as in elegant, prickly oak tannins, not as in „hot“) and, finally, somewhat more dry and decidedly dusty. Way more dusty than the Redbreast 12, which I‘m comparing this with. Also more varied and interesting, taste-wise.
    • Finish
The fruit subsides, the sweetness lingers, but most of all we have this prolonged „dustiness“ that is so typical of pot still Irish. Peculiar but pleasant! Also, this does not taste young at all, despite the lack of an age statement. I can’t imagine this being much younger than 10-12 years on average.

    Goes well, nice pot still.
    • Nose
Immediately fruit bomb (banana, pear compote, some sugared pineapple), then vanilla and honey, butter cream, cereals ... after a while slightly tart hay and herbal notes, burnt biscuit
    • Taste
sweet, shortbread, cereal, milk chocolate ... the longer in the mouth, the more oak ... and something salty, tingling
    • Finish
medium length, milk chocolate, slightly bitter

keeping a long story short. A very fresh and refreshing Irishman. Fits well in the summer and just right.
    • Nose
grassy, but very fruity, cereals, vanilla.
    • Taste
mild, fruity, sweet with malt and vanilla.
    • Finish
quite short, fruity, sweet and a little malt.

  8. Ivynor scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

Very easy to drink, not bitter. Not very complex but friendly
    • Nose
Sweet, fresh, on apple, pear, vanilla
    • Taste
Very Irish, easy, supple, a little creamy, with plenty of apple juice and vanilla
    • Finish
      short, on vanilla
