Whisky reviews for Glenury Royal 1984 GM

6 users have left 6 reviews for this whisky. Average rating is 87.35 points.

  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

For me a characteristic profile of G&M Rare Old; gentle whisky with both juicy oakiness and hints of sherry. It's a pity that this distillery no longer exists.
    • Nose
Delicate oakiness mixed with banana, kiwi and melon. Butterscotch and some vanilla. Hints of sherry as well.
    • Taste
Sweet and rich oak. Stewed fruits(figs and prunes) with a spicy edge of pepper and nutmeg. Also honey and smoke.
    • Finish
Quite long. Bitterness at the end. Complex.

There is white fruit and a grassy/hay note on the nose. The palate is quite creamy with a dash of faint peat and stewed mango, honey and a splash of lemon.
The finish is really spicy and the fruit returns, this is pretty good.
Profile is simples but it works.

Amazing profile. The fruits seem to me totally absent. It is a relatively intense whisky despite the likely strong reduction. Very interesting.
    • Nose
Really immediately very expressive. It is very woody but not overwhelmingly. Hard caramel, vanilla and some wax and tobacco. In the background, there is a delicate sherry and some floral notes. Very interesting and pleasant.
    • Taste
In continuity with a mix of oak and wood relatively intense associated with softer notes of salted butter caramel, honey, creme brulee and vanilla. More spicy than the nose (pepper, cinnamon, clove) and a very slight bitterness in the middle of the mouth.
    • Finish
Long and intense. Wooded always and slightly smoked.

  5. Rom did not rate this whisky Expert Junior

Nose light enough, orange point and white glue. Beautiful floral attack but the middle brings back bitterness. Alcohol wakes up in a long, astringent finish.

Nose: Oak, dry, a tad sharp, a bit grass, in the background some forest honey, hay and flowers, a tad cream and something reminiscent of sherry. All in all a very subtle nose on every account, patient waiting and a few drops water open it up a bit thou.

Mouth: Mild, a bit grassy, a tad honey

Finish: Relatively short, a tad oak, grassy, hay and flowers, a bit herbs, very pleasant

Comments: Well this one is rather subtle all around and need quite some time in the glass. It`s quite elegant and well rounded thou and I quite liked it. Maybe a bit in the direction of a peatless Higland Park

Exactly the same score as the 2010 version, yet they are (very) different. This one is the smoother, more elegant one
