  1. Boletus did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

A subtle, smooth summer whisky. Perfect for drinking in larger quantities with friends on a warm summer evening. The lack of complexity is offset by its catchiness. Every sip leads to taking another, which of course is also encouraged by its low sustainability.
    • Nose
Ripe pineapple and banana, sweet vanilla carries the fruity aromas, very buttery, has something of yellow farmer's butter and is almost a bit cheesy, like melted raclette cheese, barley, freshly grated lemon zest, grated coconut
    • Taste
Sweet lemon cream, vanilla pudding sticks to the palate, cotton candy introduces further confectionery, the fruit aromas come across a little artificially, tropical fruit gum mix, with pineapple standing out in particular
    • Finish
Rather short, a little oak, a perfumed wine gum sweetness spreads, accompanied by tart citrus towards grapefruit and grapefruit, a nice vanilla cloud rises to the top

  7. Malthead19 scored this whisky 65 points Connoisseur

    - a quite young NAS whisky
    - nowhere near as good as the comparable American
    Oak
    - somehow a bit more unpleasant in the smell and
    taste
    - not very convincing
    - Not expensive for about 30 € a liter, but not really either
    Well
    • Nose
malty, oak, subtle vanilla, still a lot of alcohol on the nose
    • Taste
      lightly burning, oak, sweetness, toffee
    • Finish
      short finish;
short to medium aftertaste still long oak and sweetish bourbon notes present

  8. kikist scored this whisky 55 points Expert Senior

Pretty light and there are few off notes.
I think this whisky is not for sipping neat.
Probably made with mixing in mind.
    • Nose

Really light and shy but unfortunately that's the best pert of this whisky.
      Tabaco, Cardboard, flower meadow
After lot of time in the glass there is vanilla
    • Taste
      50 50
Soapy, herbal, some sweetnes, some citruses maybe tangerine but all that covered with some notes of bad bitterness
    • Finish
      50 50
bitterness, some spiciness, some dark notes like expresso coffee, some metal notes

Flowery, sweet, a little alcohol. In the mouth then relatively little flavor, almost watery, some Obstler ... the Select is more exciting.

    N-
Light saw dust, light white chocolate, light citrus...perhaps some
cherry, some vanilla, some honey... this is more like component and lab
    fixed dram than aged dram.

P- Soft citrus, peaches, sugary. Ginger bread, ginger candy.... a lot of ginger indeed.

F- Short, sugared ginger water with few drops of ethanol.... smooth and pleasant nonetheless.

  31. Falnor scored this whisky 75 points Connoisseur

Quite gentle and sweet. Apple, lemon and cinnamon. Think of a nice fruitbowl and some nice cakes with milk chocalate and cinnamon. Vanilla, abricots and again apples, mostly green.

A light whisky perfect as a great start for a long tasting. It's very easy, but not dull at all. The price is also right. Don't judge this along with old or expensive whisky.

  32. Bond scored this whisky 78 points Member Senior

What did you expect? Regarding that price... It has some attributes of the classic Lowlander, but the greenish notes are too strong and disurbung.
    • Nose
Light; some flowers, milk choc and maybe a green apple. The greenish note from the alcohol is dsturbing this a bit. Quite young this lad, it may seem.
    • Taste
Bit greenish. Grass and some herbes, but not the bitter ones. Lemon, vanilla and some wood joining in.
    • Finish
Lemon and vanilla taking over. Bit creamy now. Dry.

  33. noqster scored this whisky 69 points Member Senior

    Pretty flat and boring

    Nose: Lemon, Vanilla, Alcohol
    Palate: Same as above
    Finish: Short

Alcohol lessens if you let whisky rest in the glass a little while before drinking it.

    Not worth the money

  34. Abydoss scored this whisky 55 points Member Senior

    • Nose
Vanilla, sweetness, light citrus notes, beeswax / honey, with hints of white chocolate and prunes, light notes of solvents
    • Taste
a lot of oak, a little bitter, dry
    • Finish
in short, the bitterness and the oak remain as well as the feeling of dryness

  35. m884 scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

Nose: Lomon, oak, plywood, mint, a bit alcohol and solvent

    Mouth: Oak, slightly bitter, vanilla

Finish: Short (like this review), vanilla, a bit oily, lemon, burnt wood

Comment: not too shabby, but there is a slight miss-note with plywood/solvent/bitter in nose and mouth. The finish is surprisingly complex thou. Solid stuff for a low price.

  36. markjedi1 scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

Move over, Select! I have just discovered my new aperitif whisky. Classic Lowlander, so
very accessible and delicate. According to my sources, casks between 5 and 9
years of age were married to create this one.
    • Nose

The nose is very light on vanilla, lime, lemongrass and chocolate
cookies that spent a little too long in the oven. Dried hay, as well. Zesty is
      the keyword here.
    • Taste

The attack is light, fresh and zesty (again) on lime, vanilla dried
grass and honey. A lot of grain. Clearly a young whisky. Skin of Granny Smith
      apples.
    • Finish

The finish is rather short and remains, here we go again, zesty and dies
      on hazelnuts.

  37. alectron scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

seems a bit unstable & thin occasionally. Surprising that the palate holds up that well with such a low abv. Also, hardly any beeswax, but a dried rest in a glass has quite heavy beeswax notes surprisingly...
    • Nose
a bit thin but quite pleasant, vanilla (cookies), honey, cinnamon, apples, baked cinnamon apples, a faint vegetable note in the back as well as hints of beeswax. (84)
Later : turning fruitier, but more ester-y & somewhat undefineable than before. (81)
    • Taste
nice oily consistency despite the low %, vanilla, apples, spices (84)
    • Finish
turning slightly dry, more vanilla & cookies, honey, white chocolate, alc comes through (82)

Auchentoshan Springwood is a very special whisky its unique character to a large extent thanks to the maturation period was celebrated in North American oak barrels which previously has matured in bourbon.
A Auchentoshan which you want to keep sipping, dangerously delicious!
    • Nose
Wonderful aromas of citrus, white chocolate, honey and sweet vanilla.
    • Taste
On the palate wonderful tones of nuts, citrus and many subtle hints of ingredients like freshly cut grass, lemonade and chocolate biscuits.

  39. QuarterCentury did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Auchentoshan Springwood is the time when most of the growing happens for a tree. This malt is fresh, zesty and sweet - reminiscent of eating fruits in a spring garden. Springwood is 100% North American ex-bourbon oak and its name is inspired by the higher percentage of springwood in North American oak.
