- On the nose, caramel. We already feel the power of alcohol. Too much, even. It's not very welcoming. It's like a trap: you're sweetened up to better put a pie in your mouth. Wood, too. Huge mouth spice: the whole range, from cinnamon to pepper through nutmeg and pepper. Too much spice. Final not so long but marked by the chilli. We are more serene after adding water. The caramel is greedy and fruit appear even in the mouth, nice surprise. Enthusiasm 3/5
- The Canto Cask Range is a first for Compass Box: a
range of 16 single cask, cask-strength Scotch malt whiskies. Each cask held the
same malt whisky, but for the last 18 months the whiskies were aged on a range
of different new oaks, both French and American, in a variety of different
toasts. Number 48 used a heavily toasted French oak cask.
This is sweet and toasty with marshmallow notes and lots of vanilla.
