Whisky Reviews for Clynelish 1982 Lb

[March, 2012]  Together with friends I emptied bottle no. 87 that I bought for 90 Euro in February, 2012.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5.  I did not take any notes.

Old bottle = take the time. The addition of a few drops of water improves this whisky in a more than substantial way. After a good half-hour after adding water a biscuity character (biscuit butter / vanilla) is required. Magnificent!
    • Nose
Dry, herbaceous, mineral, discreet astonishing alcohol, nice vegetable touch, chlorophyll, freshly cut grass, sap, nuts, hazelnut, laurel, basil. Fresh and subtle. A little wood, dust.
    • Taste
Let appear a fruity that did not show itself to the nose. A very quick and powerful start. A fast and intense development. A spicy boom in the middle of the mouth. The alcohol level is almost forgotten. A small hook on the side chlorophyll, camphor, menthol. What elegance!
    • Finish
A little too short, the mouth dries up a bit and a slight return andhanolic slightly diminishes the pleasure.

A nose of enormous power. Waxy green fruits, a little dust, apple, lemon, some varnish. It feels the "old".

On the palate, the 63.3% are a little too much felt; you must leave the sip a little time in the mouth to get used to it. Then the wax and the fruits are revealed.

The final is (unfortunately) a little too short. Phenolic hints come back into the nose. A little pepper and dryness in the throat.

A typical Clynelish profile, but the old school side stands out clearly compared to the traffic jams of the 2010s. It's good overall, a pity that the alcohol rate is a bit too high and serves it somewhat.
