Lovely spirit. Pity that it has been discontinued.
    • Nose
The nose is surprisingly sweet and even a bit candy-like, but dry. Think violets and hard candy with strawberry taste. Some sweet butter and even some juicy pears. It also offers some hazel nuts and… blood. Wonderful trace of smoke. Very pleasant new make on the nose.
    • Taste
The ABV is no problem whatsoever. Au contraire, it gives him a nice punch. Again candy sweet and smoky, but now with a mild herbal side. Pepper, aniseed, raw potatoes and some milk chocolate.
    • Finish
The finish is medium long, self-assured and spicy. Some copper at the death (which is kind of funny, considering the fact that copper is the only thing that has touched this spirit so far…).

A surprising easy drink. Not exhausting like many other new make. Some flavors already shine through.
    • Nose
A sweet, grainy nose. Honey can be guessed, the bread note (sourdough?) Is already very dominant.
    • Taste
Fruity-sweet with biscuit and honey. Not biting, but pleasantly soft and cool with menthol. Something metallic.
    • Finish
As expected short, slightly metallic, salty and peppery. Residual sugar.

I tasted this one after a Highland Park Tour. It was surprisingly fruity almost like fruits Schnapps from Austria. the 50 ABV were absolutely not Problem in fact I liked it.

N: Another blind tasting after the popular ‘Spring forward’ session which was kicked off by an American Rye WB. Today we are revisiting supermarket-available malts, but starting with a new make spirit. An interesting fact about Highland Park - they haven't used anything but sherry casks since 2004. People in our group guessed this blind. Tasted remarkably like Kingbarns spirit to me - must compare notes WB. Smells sweet, buttery, coppery and nutty with notes of smokey, paprika potatoes and pears. Solid, robust and complete in its own right, amazing - no wonder they are bottling this stuff!
T: Surprisingly tasty neat but water elongate the travel. Chew, chew, buttery, chocolatey chew with more copper, potato spud guns and shea butter.
F: Really settles with assurity. Lots of milk chocolate with water. Long copper/mineral finish.
C: Although drinkable, yes really, this is a robust and complex spirit primed for the bleak winters in Orkney Ahead. For a new-make it's the best all-round performer in terms of form although the most elegant new-make for me is the Lagavulin. Right, time for the malts. First up, no. 1: WB
