Ardbeg 1979 GM, 43%, Connoisseurs Choice, 09.1979 - 12.2005 WID: 309 https://www.whiskybase.com/whiski.../whisky/309/ardbeg-1979-gm #WagnerAlexTastingNotes First impression: It is probably thanks to the refill bourbon barrels that the single malt is still relatively light in the glass after such a long time. Ocher and slightly oily, it runs down after tilting the glass. Aroma: I'm surprised (though I've already read about it) that this Ardbeg from 1979 still has relatively little (!) Smoke. Of course it is present, even very pleasant (milder than today, it seems to me at least), but not as I am used to from current bottlings. Sweet vanilla, malt and oak are also easy to recognize. Taste: Two seconds in the mouth and I'm excited. This Scotch whisky is perfectly matched. Oily to slightly watery, it presents itself in the mouth and in addition to the, naturally existing, light smoke, it is the sweet vanilla, which brutally strikes. Great! Until the last sip this malt is a dream and I enjoy the supple malty, which is accompanied by pleasant spice. finish: Long, sweet and creamy with very clear vanilla. Very pleasant! The Nachschmecken reveals a slight dryness, but really only very minimal in appearance. Comment: Yes, what can I say ... I think the malt is great. He is certainly not complex, but just very, very good. Complexity is nice and interesting, but in my opinion does not always have to be. A great experience to have tasted an Ardbeg from 1979. Points: 93/100
