Whisky Reviews for Ben Nevis 1966 MBl
6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 91.06 points
- [September, 2014] Together with friends I emptied a bottle that I bought for 192 Euro in February, 2013.
In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 90. My notes state a delicate fruity profile mostly on exotic fruits. Simply delicious...
- A beautiful and elegant malt, even if it is not very complex.
Very light nose with bananas, tropical fruit, caramel, elegant wood nuances, chocolate with raisins and distant citrus fruits.
Tropical fruits, such as unripe bananas, apricots and some pineapple. The wood comes to the fore. Thanks to the low alcohol content but not too excessive. However, this Nevis looks a bit thin and watery due to the low ABV, which is a pity.

- A nice Ben Nevis for a good price, around 195 EUR is actually dirt cheap
for a whisky 45 years of age.
Just like the 42 Year Old from Alchemist, which happens to have the
exact same ABV, the nose offers tropical fruit with banana in the lead, but it
is a lot less creamy. This one also has jute and even a hint of wet cardboard
on the nose. I even get a hint of paint. That fades after a few minutes to be
replaced by a nice, nutty aroma. Primarily almonds. Think marzipan.
On the palate, it is a bit oily and softly spiced on ginger and nutmeg.
It shows quite a bit of oak, very drying, but the fruitiness keeps it on the
right side of juicy. Midpalate, I get quite some citrus, like grapefruit and
mandarin. Banana and something that reminds me of pineapple, retreats to the
background. It even has a salty touch.
The finish is long and sweet, but does get pretty bitter towards the
