Tonight we [Whiskyshare’s first meet], gave the Hedonism “Maximus’ from Compass Box WB a run for it’s money. It’s comprised of a 42yo Invergordon [70%], the remainder being a 29yo Carsebridge, both of which were matured in first-fill ex-bourbon. So, let’s begin with these younger [though really not young], appetisers WB & WB [this]
N: A grain with notes of emulsion, varnish and methylated spirits [as the age would indicate], but there are additional notes of wild strawberries, a selection of fruity gelateria with caramel, malt biscuits and cream soda - drenched in soft yet permeating oak.
T: A bold start, given the level and age of the open bottle, arriving in one block. There’s roughness here brought on by the decades of oak. It’s tasty no doubt but also a bit muddled and befuddled. Medium-thin mouthfeel.
F: Treacle heavy with more strawberries and oak.
    C. One of the first and oldest Invergordon there is. A bit tired [in the bottle], and slightly over-oaked overall but still very tasty.

    Description (by Weiser):Color: amber.
Aroma: Densely packed, emphatic flavors of sweet, smoky oak on a collision course with herbaceous grains. Because clash titans. Some beautiful brown sugar that coats dried tangerine, raisins, sultanas and dates. Right malty and syrupy sugar, but a superb balance through the fresh grain notes. Amazingly deep with some roasted Java coffee and crumbly spices with time.
Taste: Dense and pithy, with a lot of sugar syrup, honey, licorice and dried fruit. Pretty rummy, as a significant molasses sweetness? Again, this fresh grainy side and a citrus quality, while the myriad of spices come in nice balance in motion.
Aftertaste: Exceptionally long. The sugar comes back, along with a touch of pure coffee bean, vanilla and the ever-present dry fruits.
