  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

    Gorgeous whisky!
    • Nose
Beautiful nose, exotic fruit, De Monte banana's, lime, tangerines. Very pleasant.
    • Taste
Full body, very juicy. Honey, barley, citrus fruits, clear and refreshing. Some late pepper.
    • Finish
A delightful mix of fruit, barley and spice. Very long.

A very spicy/oaky old Glen Grant with a nice fruity and waxy backbone. Maybe a tad too syrupy for me nowadays but very good.
    • Nose
Fruity and waxy. Bananas, pineapples, peaches, citrus, apples, honey. Spicy oak.
    • Taste
Active oak again with lots of pepper. Fruits from the nose and honey.
With a few drops of water, not less peppery but more syrupy.
    • Finish
Long, oaky, drying. Fruits are lingering.

Nice GG, the medium-heavy wood is well balanced by rich fruitiness and piquant spiciness.
    • Nose
Rich exotic fruits. Pineapple, banana, tangerine and sour citruses. Green apple chips. Honey and spicy oak.
    • Taste
Powerful. Honey, waxy fruits, citruses and matured oak. Pepper.
    • Finish
      Long, bittersweet, fruity, spicy.

    Really good.

Very dense, intense, complex. If he was still a tick polished would be extra class. As with many old Glen Grants, you should not be allergic to wood.

Just a tad too peppery, but in a few drops of water make it rounder, fuller and (even) more aromatic.
    So some water is advised!

  5. GlenSikkes did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    Note by Wilson & Morgan;

A winning oldie which manages to marry the influence of oak with a stimulating and youthful vibrancy! We appreciate the occasional old, dark malt dominated by the wood, but we prefer to bottle whiskies with a certain balance, before they have started to become too oaky. This Glen Grant deserves some respect and will certainly appeal to lovers of old, dry, tannic and astringent sherry oak bombs… but it still is at the peak of maturation, with a good amount of fresh fruitiness. The nose is delicate, rich on tropical fruits, and the palate is particularly crisp and with a pleasant taste of red apples, together with a slightly waxy note. The immensely long finish is peppery, mineral, and slightly smoky.

An intense, dry, oaky, crispy, fruity old Speysider. Some may find it “too much”, I just had a crush on it.

    • Nose
Gee! I do like this! Very expressive. Okay, perhaps is it slightly hot (54%?), but who cares? This is so intense and vibrant! Rich on all kinds of ripe fruits. Mostly yellow plums (do you know “Mirabelle eau de vie”?), but also peaches and pineapple juice. The influence of oak is obvious, with quite some lactones (pencil shavings), but I like this kind of oak bomb.
    • Taste
The oak is big, granted. But despite its age (probably over 35yo), it remains very lively thanks to fresh citrusy notes. Dry and astringent, but mellowed by nice honeyed notes and a pleasant waxiness. Thus, the alcohol seems better integrated than on the nose.
    • Finish
Long and slightly bitter, with a late and enjoyable return of fruitiness.

  7. Jean-Brice scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

A rather special but pleasant profile

Tasted in blind under the WDTS
    • Nose
Wax, walnut, vanilla, fruit in the background and a mineral sprig
    • Taste
Vegetable, woody, a bit bitter on the finish
    • Finish
      Finale of medium length
