    S 7
A delightful one. Overall, very harmonic with no off-notes. Quite young, somehow unexciting, however.

[78-82] I'll gladly welcome another dram.

    N 25
Creamy & fruity. Plenty of Red fruits (syrupy cherry, pomegranate). Fragrant wood. Nuts. A whiff of emptied ashtray.

    P 25
Sherry-driven. Dark fruits. Espresso beans. Butterscotch. Peppery Christmas spices. Mildly smoked malt (from the oak perhaps?)

    F 23
Mid-short, slightly dry finish. Cereal with dried fruit chunks. A touch bitter around the edges.

    Nice color.
    Is it colored?
    Yes!
I looked it up right away.

    Nice aroma!
Less the sherry than the wood that comes out so lovely and comforting here.
    Cigar malt?
Should one have smelled tobacco here?
Now some sherry, almost like Mon Cherie,
    some chocolate too.

    Similar in taste.
    It starts soft and lovely
then becomes increasingly strong and tart.
    Almost a little vanilla.
    Wood aromas also dominate here.

    Very tasty!

Interesting cask selection. The aromas of the different cask types harmonize very well with each other, with the sherry standing out a bit in my opinion. In general, you have a very barrel-heavy malt in the glass that, despite its supposedly young age, is not stingy with oak notes. However, it lacks a bit of depth and complexity.

    https://www.aboutwhisky.de/tastingnotes/dalmore-cigar-malt-reserve/
    • Nose
A strong start brings heavy sherry and red wine notes. I find wild berries, raisins and cherry candies. Then the oak becomes noticeable, the aroma becomes slightly tart with woody notes and the typical "warehouse character". If it is left open for a few minutes, the aroma will change slightly. It then seems a little sweeter to me with caramel, brown sugar, roasted coffee beans, toasted bread and a hint of leather. After the first taste, these flavors intensify even more.
    • Taste
Velvety soft, the mouthfeel fluctuates between sweet and slightly sour. Dark fruits like cherries and blackberries are immediately present. In my opinion, the sherry sets the tone. Floral notes and an association of tobacco can also be felt. Even before swallowing, it becomes slightly bitter on the palate and notes of oak emerge.
    • Finish
The bittersweet notes of the oak become more intense, the mouthfeel becomes drier and I am reminded of coffee and espresso. Caramel and roasted aromas accompany the whole thing.

  11. Kraddell scored this whisky 76 points Expert Junior

Pours a clear, medium (to perhaps a tad lighter) gold. Scent is recognizable malty, wood, not overly expressive on the sherry etc. Not a huge boozebomb, it's even fairly subtile for a 44%. Taste is quite slick, quite a fullbodied whisky, giving it sweet impressions. Alcohol is a bit louder here, but it doesn't overpower. Nice and smooth sherry oak, as well as a touch of bourbon, a minor hint of dryness, and a very nice balance between al it's features. Certainly a quality whisky - but it doesn't strike me as overly unique or specific. I'm not getting the wine barrel myself. Finish is lovely and fairly long, an awesome blending of all these barrel features.

  12. Totoro scored this whisky 75 points Connoisseur

Some loud oak and wine, with not much else going on.
    • Nose
      79 79
Heavy oak notes and savory sherry.

Wooden planks, licorice, tannic red wine, blood orange, blackberry. Some rubber.
    • Taste
      73 73
Winey and at the same time weirdly dry.

Thin in texture, poor in flavor.
    • Finish
      74 74
Tomato sauce with a generous splash of dry red winde. Grated ginger and white pepper. Bitter aftertaste.

  13. MarcinCh scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Dark colour. Oily whisky in a glass.
    • Nose
      86 86
At first, Sherry. Pretty sweet, but not like PX, but more like a mix of Sherry Oloroso and Bourbon barrels. More red and even dark berry fruits. Blueberries. Maybe some leather notes, but quite fresh leather. Caramel. Vanilla.
    • Taste
      87 87
Accents of Sherry Oloroso. Tobacco. Dried fruits. Bitterness, probably tobacco. Cocoa. Maybe a little barrel. There is also some fresh fruit.
    • Finish
      84 84
Caramel. Tobacco. Some spice. Warming up. Cocoa. The bitterness of the oak. Long finish.

A very nice Dalmore with an interesting flavor profile and despite the different barrels, very balanced and harmonious.
    • Nose
      87 87
Vanilla, caramel, sweet sherry notes and almost flowery wine notes, some nuts and chocolate. A wonderful but not too difficult complexity.
    • Taste
      88 88
Soft and oily at first, very fruity. Then comes some pepper and roasted oak. The spicy notes mix with intense sherry notes and are gently wrapped in grapevines. At the back there is also clear chocolate and light espresso tones and some tobacco. Everything very balanced in terms of taste.
    • Finish
      85 85
There are more spicy parts in the medium-long finish. The sweetness fades a little too quickly. Admittedly successful and pleasant without going too bitterly, but then there is a lack of volume and sustainability.

Looks pretty young to me. Light fruity. Almost a bit put on in the direction of chewing gum. Some cocoa over time. A subtle acidity in the taste - reminiscent of orange. Mild and rather short on the finish.

The Dalmore Cigar Malt Reserve comes up short on the palate, even though the nose has many redeeming qualities.
    • Nose
An overall sweetness with dried fruits, but also plums, orange peel with a hint of triple sec.  Touches of vanilla, honey, mead and a whiff of cappuccino as well. Finally some brown sugar. Very pleasant and neatly balanced.
    • Taste
Sweet but with bitter notes of espresso and burnt caramel. There's toffee, fudge and chocolate, but also a fair amount of spices.
    • Finish
Lingering bitterness. Medium in length. Finally some sweetness.

On the nose, sherry, oaky, and strong vanilla.
In the mouth, pastry sensation, caramel "toffee", vanilla, spices too, then fruits a little macerated (cooked orange, raisins de Corinth), it is very sweet, but also monolithic!
In the end, long on the same flavors, like a bourbon in fact, lacking subtlety.

A dram to drink in syrup, where to remember a typicity "Dalmorienne"!

  35. LiquidThoughts scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Great NAS, priced he should like but like 20, - less cost. ;) Otherwise, I like the slight exotic hints in it.
    • Nose
Cinnamon, caramel, berries, vanilla, Sherrylastig, a little exotic but also comes through (therefore probably suitable for Cigars)
    • Taste
Great fruits, sherry with banana caramel sweets, mango, with vanilla-eos, cinnamon, ground spices, berry bushes, orange
    • Finish
      Spicy, ginger, clove, sherry, medium-long

A nice Dalmore, not great. The original cigar malt was better and also the Gran Reserva, which was in between the two cigarmalts (mainly renamed for marketing reasons) was better. They were also both much better priced. because price / quality shifts towards the negative.

My first Dalmore. I would have expected worse.
    • Nose
Sweetish and heavy at the beginning with roasted orange slices, cinnamon, leather and vanilla. Earthy, loamy, dark. Cocoa, roasted coffee beans. After some time, add almond splitter.
    • Taste
Full mouthfeel at the beginning, velvety and creamy, viscous, syrupy. Again, the orange peel, which come along on the tongue but with more intense spiciness. White pepper, marjoram (?). The oranges are covered in toffee, malt and milk chocolate, with a pinch of cinnamon and coriander. Sherry comes through.
    • Finish
Remains creamy, next to the oranges still occur lemon peels. Oak comes.

Pleasant. Not complex but friendly and easy.
    • Nose
Pretty spicy. Not because of alcohol but mostly because of pepper and some smoke. It's not very expressive. Toffee, chocolate and vanilla. It is rather sweet, creamy and greedy but it lacks intensity.
    • Taste
More present. Always sweetness and roundness; It's creamy with honey, toffee. Rather sweet. Evolves towards the spices in the middle of the mouth.
    • Finish
Syrupy. Moderately long and very marked by caramel.

Very nice full and complex nose. Smells of dark fruits and lots of tobacco. Tastes just as delicious, with a peppery / spicy note added. Unfortunately, the taste of whisky is not as complex as the nose. The finish is intense and round. Overall, a good whisky, the price is also ambitious.

  44. Defeatless scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

Nose: Ah an savoury sherried whisky. I like that! So the dark leather notes, tabaco (cigar malt for a reason!) are bit over here. Some prunes and hint of varnish. After a while it tones down and it gives more red fruit and freshly baked fruitcake.

Taste: Hint of the leather notes, but the tabaco is here. Some bread and cereal. A bit dusty. And sweet dried red fruit.

Body: thin and weak, to bad this is chill-filtered

Finish: Medium. Starts a bit bitter and dry, but develops to a more rounded savoury sherry finish.

Price: overpriced as pretty much all Dalmore. Should be around 50 euro's tops.

A whisky to taste for lovers of easy drink but is too uncomplicated for the thrill seeker! This whisky is a good balancer which makes it quickly flat ... Little character .... (In 40 years this bottle could be a killer, I try the experiment and I'll talk about it for my 69 years ;-) )
    • Nose
Sweet (better?) ... Some dry fruit and some wood ... Some vanilla and cinnamon (quite poor ...)
    • Taste

A surprise bonus dram [from Nick], for comparison against the KA3 WB
N: Strength wise, despite both being 40% whiskies, this seems far more potent like its in a different ethanol bracket. That translates as punch & vibrant [spirit led], without the complexity of the 6 cask type King Alexander which is understandable.
T: Bitter-sweet vanillas with some bitter wood. Seems to show more age than the King Alexander, but im not sure thats actually the case. Anyhows, its refreshing in the fact that it doesn’t seem as caramel led.
F: That bitter wood lingers. Gets a bit rough and meaty.
C: King Alex vs CIgar malt? Bottle the KA3 at 46%, reduce the E150a and slash the price and theres no competition. As it is, on price alone, i imagine most will go for the cigar malt at half the price.

I probably miss the present - otherwise very appreciated - cigar against which this trunk should fight ... And what serious whisky must be courted by the retailer with the reference to the "very high quality packaging"?

The ancient port wine barrel includes caramel and vanilla, malt, figs, tree nuts, plum compote, as well as peppermint.

Malty. Rich and creamy. Lots of toffee. Mint chocolate. Fresh and lively. Cardamom. Quite complex.

    Palate
Round and sweet. Good balance with the nose. The

same rich mint chocolate note. A precise oak frame ties up the rich

Dalmore Cigar Malt Reserve is taken from a selection of aged stocks from
10 to 15 years, matured in both American white oak ex-bourbon barrels
and Matusalem oloroso sherry casks from Gonzalez Byass before a final
finesse in Premier Cru Cabernet Sauvignon wine barriques.
On the palate creamy vanilla, toffee and sweet pineapples open, followed
by rich mango, crushed pear and kiwi fruits. An aftertaste of
unsurpassed elegance. A vatting of 70% Oloroso sherry wood and 30% ex-bourbon barrels, bottled at 44% ABV.
