Whisky Reviews for Bruichladdich 18-year-old 2nd Edition
13 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.32 points
Not quite typical for Ayla scent, did not find smoke. The aroma is well developed and gaining. Surgically balanced, fit, smooth, consistent, sea, tasty. A small failure in the aftertaste, compared to other elements.
Apples, mineral, rich, coniferous notes, banana, dried apricots, dry weeds, wormwood, juniper, eucalyptus or mint (cools the nasal receptors), meat in a sweet sauce, background fuel oil, hospital, bandages, oak, honey , melon, vanilla, pleasant sea salinity, iris and chocolate, sweet black tea, alcoholism is felt at deep immersion.
Melon, oak, salty, juicy, meat, hearth, ash, iris, lacquer.
Fresh, salty and oak, juniper, melon, ash, citrus (lemon peel), long, chocolate, raisins, stains, oak too much (binds and dries).
- Shipping Fruity nice tune!
- Tasting Notes by Jim McEwan, head distiller;
Character: Voluptuous and absolutely flawless, the balance and texture of this beautiful “A List” spirit is unbelievable. It’s total cruise control in a glass.
Colour: Gilded Lily/Lemon Honey.
Nose: The aromatics open on soft, ripe, honeydew melon, papaya & passion fruit. It’s a fascinating fusion and together they provide the foundation for the strong mellow oak notes which bring character and power to the spirit. On the third pass the lemon and honey citrus flavours emerge, adding a defining clarity to the experience.
Palate: The freshness of the fruit caress the olfactory senses and provides the foundation for the biscuity sweetness of malted spring barley. What crowns this classic is the time spent in Jurançon casks which has added a sophistication and style to the shy sensitive side of this Island beauty. The flavours of sultanas and super sweet raisins add the magic that makes this malt truly unique.
Finish: There is a refinement, a delicacy and a connoisseurship in the heart of this spirit that will appeal to those who seek new experiences, exciting and exclusive bottlings all designed and hand made with passion and pride.
Mood: Decadent, outgoing, benevolent, mellow. There’s a lot going on here. This needs time and space – and a cigar.
- The note from Alex (see below) refers to a different Whisky (the 18yo. 1st Edition). Only the 1st edition was matured in german Willi Opitz red wine casks.
The 2nd edition was finally matured in jurancon white wine casks.
This one is the 2nd edition.
- N: fruity - peach and pineapple, leather, floral, chocolate, fudge and in the end some vinegar
T: syrup, nuts, exotic fruits, wood, drying a bit sharp and mint
F: vanilla, winey and orange
- "The 18 Year Old - Matured for 18 years in Bourbon casks and then in Willi Opitz rare red pinot wine casks. Creme Brulee, Syrup, Toffee , Vanilla and Citrus fruits. The unusually tall, narrow-necked stills produce a refined floral, and fruity spirit. Distilled Matured & Bottled at Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay. Non chill filtered and coloring free for a fuller flavor." - Distillery
Blissful aromas of vanilla, apricot, peach and soft oak with notes of honey (exotic) fruits such as mango, papaya, melon and passion fruit. In the background flavors of vanilla and almond in sight.
Oak with hints of vanilla include, almonds, honey and passion fruit. A taste that as time goes on becoming warmer and richer. Notes wzoete of white wine, raisins and grapes are accompanied with burnt wood and earthy taste.
Long, warm and especially rich aftertaste of a dessert wine with raisins and grapes sweet touching and slightly bitter finish. Very nice combination!
