  1. AdamsB scored this whisky 74 points Expert Senior

This mix has a particularly high share of single malts, which is over 50%. The wealth of whiskey suggests that the malts were not too young.
    • Nose
      73 73
Sweet, with strawberry Chewitts, caramel / butterscotch and bubblegum. There is also a leafy, floral note, with hints of daffodils
    • Taste
      74 74
A spicy graina note, followed by a sweetness. Strawberry and bubblegum notes.
    • Finish

Dont know whats in there. But feels young and unbalanced. Nice and quite different. But still lots of grain, honey, dusty notes. Different.

  4. Syburger scored this whisky 30 points Member Senior

Can only be cleaned with the window.

  5. Izzino scored this whisky 78 points Connoisseur

Tasted at the whiskey festival in Budapest. So this is a really bad piece.

  6. MarcinCh scored this whisky 73 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Pretty sweet. Caramel, vanilla. There are also light varnish rivets, but not very repulsive. A little pepper. The alcohol is palpable. Traces of honey. Salt, a distant trail of the sea breeze. Wax.
    • Taste
Light sweetness. Smoke is felt. Ash. Caramel. Lots of salt. Sea. Salty caramel. Lots of pepper. Pretty oily for a blende. Wax. Cigarette butts.
    • Finish
Smoke, salt, caramel, salty caramel. A little pepper. Vanilla. Slightly warming up. Medium-long finish. Maybe some oak.

Re-review after 6,5 years. This was batch 12-03-20.
The scores are also being topped up a bit because this is very good quality for money. It beat many a blend in this price range.
    • Nose
      85 85
Quite savory, good dollop of the sherry casks here. Little smell of the grain. Some liquorish notes. But also there is an offnote here. Some fungi smell.
    • Taste
      84 84
Sweet, soft and rounded. Quite a good influence of the sherry cask. Yet not much depth. Although one should remember this is a €20,- blend!
    • Finish
      84 84
Short length. Again hit of sherry, some wood, some toffee. But the fungi hint in here is a little disrupting.

  10. jakemorris scored this whisky 82 points Member Junior

I give this 82, taking into account the price tag. It is an excellent value for money blend (handsomely beating its competitors at this price), but nothing more. Tasty but not exciting. Great for hot toddies!

  11. Lu Cifer scored this whisky 72 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
      72 72
warm, a little bit tangy, slightly smoky with a hint of prunes and oak notes ...
    • Taste
      72 72
a bit alcoholic, initially slightly sweet then with tart notes of young grain whiskeys.
    • Finish
      71 71
with slightly tart oak notes but also with a slight sweetness, ends softly and relatively briefly.

  12. Cask1988 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

A surprisingly pleasant blend for just €20. I review this within it’s price range. And while doing so, I have to say that this Adelphi blend beats it’s comparable ‘price range buddy’s’ by miles.
    • Nose
There is quite some grain involved here so this means it needs time in the glass to let it breath. After a few minutes a quite decent body starts to reveal. It gives red fruits, citrusfruits, winegums and orangepeel. The nose is surprisingly full and powerful for just 40% It has a musty layer which I like. It’s not complex nor very deep and intens but it is an easy and tasteful sipper on the nose.
    • Taste
Soft arrival. It’s young and grainy. It does remind me of watered down new make but that’s no criticism. It’s friendly, accessible and tasteful. Again it’s fruity with focus on citrus. Also winegums, vanilla cream and a floral note joins the party. It does taste quite flat, but considering it’s affordable price and low abv, the body is again very decent here.
    • Finish
In the short finish I get a whiff of smoke in a heavily toasted oak kind of way. The finish is short but rich. There is oak, sweet soft fruits, white pepper and winegums. The finish is actually rather pleasant. I’ve had a lot worse finishes with much more expensive single malts.

  14. Dre73 scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

Not very complex or something, but not bad at all either. For only a 40% Abv and a price of around 20 euro, this is pretty good value for money for sure. Certainly not watery or thin, just a reasonable and pretty easy drinkable blend.
    • Nose
      82 82
Pretty full nose, fruity, some red fruits, apples, some citrus, floral notes. Later on more fresh and lighter fruits.
    • Taste
      81 81
Pretty some power for only 40%, fruity again, some red fruits, honey, some winegums, a little bit of orange, some caramel.
    • Finish
      82 82
Still a little pickering, fruity, winegums, again some caramel, middle long finish with a little bitter note underneath now.

  16. lachaineduwhisky did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    • Nose
Dusty, with caramel. He is too wise, dull limit.
    • Taste
Very simple, with caramel again. Not very round, unbalanced limit. The reduction is too sensitive.
    • Finish
      Without interest.

      Enthusiasm: 2/5

  17. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 75 points Connoisseur

Pretty nice, tasty blend, some gum, Grain and Malt fit in proportion. Much better than the usual Supermalt blends, but the Einsteigerermalts offer more.

  18. drammelzee scored this whisky 78 points Expert Junior

To be honest price/quality wise this is 85 points. There's nothing really exciting, but there's also not much against this. It's an easy going, very drinkable dram for €20,-

  19. mothers_finest scored this whisky 78 points Expert Senior

I will then make an exception and include here the value 4 price rating. Otherwise it would not be fair, because the only reason for such a blend is the low price. Let's say; i can drink it well and painlessly.
But it offers no extra and is even quite boring. On the other hand, nothing bothers me. And there are also young cheap blends that still taste shit, which is not the case here. So, before you reach for a Walker Red, you better choose this one. The question is rather; who's going for a Walker Red here?

Enjoy it straight from the measuring cup into the throat!

  22. AdelphosHume scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

A pretty good blend. Light mouthfeel. Plenty of enjoyable bits with enough interesting nuances to make it stand out a bit. No peat, that I can find, in this one, which is a shame. Still, worth a buy once in a while, in my opinion.
    • Nose
White fruits and sweet citrus, light butterscotch and malt, a hint of barrel char and floral vanilla, and a touch of acetone and cherry liqueur.
    • Taste
Sweet tea, a quick succession of toasted oak and sherry tannins, malt and a touch of basil, and a bit of bitter-sweet candied ginseng (earthy, a bit sweet, and slightly herbal bitter).
    • Finish
Cherry liqueur, cocoa, and oak tannins.

  23. rb854 scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

A genuine bang for your buck.
    • Nose
Apples, freshly mown grass and fruity at first. Then it becomes rubbery, malty, juniper, obvious white pepper, some citrus, nutmeg and a whiff of smoke.
    • Taste
Taste is quite full. Chocolate, coffee, some freshness, again some rubbery note, creamy, banana and nuts.
    • Finish
Medium length, the rubbery note stays, coffee, anise, wood and some fruitiness.

Quite a descent from the other blends of Adelphi, but they are blended malts too. Unfortunately, you can not wait for the money.
    • Nose
Uh, the nose is very grainy, burnt rubber, grains, wood chips, metallic-alcoholic, liquorice
    • Taste
Very oily, even a little flat, logically by the 40%, one is not used to that of Adelphi, orange oil, car tires, cereals, nuts, dusty dresser (but from Ikea, not from the antique dealer)
    • Finish
Gum, dry, grain, dry malt and grain, weird sweetness, short

  27. Cubey666 scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

Tasted during an Adelpi Tasting, September 2016

A nice blend full of fruit, sherry influence, lemon, pear and a hint of smoke in the nose

the body is well balanced and rather easy drinkable.

very likable dram and a great bang for your buck

update: after finishing my first bottle: a great everyday dram, and a good start to warm up the system before some serious tasting

Fine blend, not high quality. However, she has a nice balance.
    • Nose
The sea, something metallic, cereals, smoke, salt, bananas and vanilla
    • Taste
Toffee, smoke, banana, roasted wood, cotton candy, dash of chili pepper, nuts and orange
    • Finish
Short, smoke, grain, orange and a little chili pepper

  33. DrinkingWhisky scored this whisky 74 points Expert Senior

It's not a great whisky, but a very decent one - and good value for money; I regularly drink it as a "starter whisky". Tasting notes taken on 19/11/2015.
    • Nose
Grainy, hints of sawdust, ripe banana, but something rubbery or metallic as well.
    • Taste
Sweet vanilla, orange, burnt wood (thanks Kay for that one!), lots of nuts, faint hints of smoke.
    • Finish
The smoke in the taste transfers into something metallic and bitter, which make it a weird mix with the sweetness it contains. Medium long finish, though not really to my liking.

Wow, what a surprising nose this blend, sherry, smoke, grain and vanilla. This continues in the mouth and for a young blend also a nice thick body. The finish is a bit disappointing and then I realized that it was a blend, quite granular. But for this price? Find something better!

    • Taste

    • Finish

nose: Sweet, ripe banana, sweets, some citrus not heavy but fresh and delightful, after another wee sniff the oak comes trough. Little grain

Initial taste: Wow that's nice. Some liquorish, sweet fruit, almond and a hint of sherry. Little grain.

Body: medium-heavy. makes a oily presentation, quite well

Finish: medium-long: the grain is more present, but also is the banana and the liquorish.

Price: This is actually better quality than price. It's under-priced (although I shouldn't say that out loud)

Presentation: Decent. although on the bottle it says a peaty finish, but I couldn't get any peat.

Comments: I had already a couple of bottles of these, and I think, although there are batch variations (I tend to get more grain in this one), this is the best blend in it's price range!

Rather complex for a blend in this price category.
    • Nose
Banana candy, caramel, orange and vanilla.
    • Taste
Toffee, orange, burnt wood, sugared almond, brown sugar, hazelnut and smoke. A bit watery, too diluted.
    • Finish
Toffee, banana candy, brown sugar, vanilla, hazelnut and smoke.

  41. Magnus Hillman scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

Not at all bad, but would definitely benefit from higher strength. Aside from being weak and with the metal hint on the nose a good blend.

    (tasting interval 76-81)
    • Nose
At first closed, with a metal kind of hint. orange peel, licorice, smoke and some artificial banana flavor.
    • Taste
candied oranges, brown sugar, almonds and soft smoke.
    • Finish
The finish disappears rather quickly with sweet licorice notes.

  42. alectron scored this whisky 75 points Connoisseur

I would guess there are batch variations. The ones I tried were very average, but with a more than usual portion of smoke for a blend.
