  1. Dram Dracula scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

What's remarkable about this whisky is the balance. Despite the high ABV, this whisky is on point. In fact, there's no need to add water. The marriage of good casks, including excellent sherry casks, and peat make this a total winner. No complaints at all.
    • Nose
Peat, dried fruit, honey, black tea, subtle sherry, mint.
    • Taste
Superb balance despite the ABV. Thick, peaty, sweet, sticky, peppery. It's first rate for sure, but a bit all over the place (typical for all these 25yo Taliskers, including this very first one).
    • Finish
Hello? This is peppery, with lingering sherry sweetness in the form of cherry cough syrup.

scbp-8572, an excellent sherry cask spirit, can be bottled better than a lot of TMD, but unfortunately the high number of wines are sloppy at the end, destroying some of the pleasure.
    • Nose
      92 92
Sweet pineapple, Sunkist orange, fruity and prominent, obvious oily, vague meat, very sweet flavor, coffee powder whose flavor has declined, sweet medicine syrup, raisins, tea soup, honey, is the main spirit of sherry barrels, Strong and straightforward. 92
    • Taste
      91 91
High sweetness, unexpectedly soft taste, mocha, caramel, brownie, honey, ginger tea, brown sugar, sourness transitioning to faint smoky, black tea bags, dark chocolate and other bitters. The wine is oily, persistent, powerful and straightforward. p90b92
    • Finish
      86 86
Ash, slightly astringent, lime, a little pepper, the spiciness is gradually revealed, and it is a little rough. 86

Concerning peaty, maritime malts this would be perfection. I love this style.

  21. ARDBERG scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

2cl tasting set sample - a very honourable old style Talisker nose with some iodine, drift wood, maritime character. The taste is like a picknick in the heather close to the sea, say Neist Point on Skye, that seems to last all night long with northern lights giving sparks to the finish.
A few drops of water magnify everything mentioned. A great dram, that I unfortunately bypassed when it came out.

Today in the Talisker Vertical I tasted 20 - 62% sherry against the Talisker.

Both at an extremely high level! This 25y - 2001 is on par with the 20y - 62%. But with a little more sherry, wood, spice and intensity.

The 20y - 62% is on the same level. But offers more fruity aromas, in the direction of blackberries.

We had at least 4cl each. We couldn't make out a winner. Both whiskys are terrific!

    • Nose
Sweet fruitiness, a bit of oak, a hint of smoke, vanilla, a bit of grass, honey, milk chocolate.
    • Taste
Soft smoke, pepper, exotic fruits, a bit of oak, a hint of vanilla, dark chocolate.
    • Finish
Fruity sweetness, a bit of smoke, a hint of pepper, milk cocoa, long and very good. A rather complex and very well balanced whisky.

The proportion of Shirley Bucket must not be low, and her personality is obvious.
    • Nose
Frozen blueberry cheese mousse, cherry jam, raspberry jam, fresh cream ice cream, bitter orange, freshly squeezed lemon and lime juice, peas, cloves, vanilla, orange peel, sorrel, anise, allspice, cinnamon, Yanshan chestnut , Phenol, iodine, cotton balls impregnated with medical alcohol, pepper, smoked ham, charcoal sticks, slag, peat, hot pepper, rhizomes of intertidal plants, and oil leaking lintel.
    • Taste
Pepper, charred, burning, peat, pepper, tobacco, dried ginger, thick smoke, menthol, spices, orange peel.
    • Finish
For a long time, like a smoke gun in the mouth, bitter, tobacco, caramel, wooden barrel.

    Colour:
    Copper / rust red
    Nose:
Pepper, sherry, pepper, sherry ... plus a sparkling spice with dull leather, lots of fruit sweetness, orange peel, fine oak wood, gunpowder, detonating cord, wet coal, cold ashes, lead, brook stones and lots of minerality. It continues with honeycomb and hints of overripe elderberry and rhubarb - all together a perfectly complementary nose!
    Taste:
Fireworks start: sherry, oranges, tobacco, wood, black powder, fuse, black elderberry and a very salty spice - you do not have much to say, just outstanding!
    Finish:
Long - spicy, fruity-fresh and filled with invigorating wood. Add tobacco and smoky humidor flavors at its finest. But also herbs, caramel, vanilla, honey and the ever-present gunpowder note in the background.
    Comment:
With the best thanks to our friend Horst for this sample !!!

A really great whisky. The oak is strong, but still fits great.
    • Nose
The nose is incredibly beautiful. Spices, cloves, oak notes, kelp, a hint of harbor basin, peat notes, marzipan, orange peel, with a nice sweetness, almost a little sherry. With a little water the aromas become even more intense and the orange notes as well as the maritime appear more clearly.
    • Taste
Undiluted quite vigorous. Neat pepper in the mouth, a little salty, first the orange notes, get over time the oak notes, the spices the upper hand. A touch of water emphasizes the orange notes, but the pepper is very present. I particularly like these old, but not musty oak flavors.
    • Finish
Oak, peat, some menthol, orange oil, maritime notes. In the end, peat, oak and fruity nuances balance each other, all seasoned with a little bit of menthol and dried fish. Long finish.

Talisker, 1975, 25 years, 59.9% Impressions during the mara-tasting from 29.03.2008: Dark amber, very oily, pearls stick to the glass, in the smell a lot of sweetness with oranges, leathery, with peat and smoke in alternation with the sweetness, maritime, in the taste sweet and salty at the same time with the oranges, the phenolic components are very harmonious, very Complex appears as tobacco? You would have to drink more of it! Very long lasting, great! With water, the smoky character is enhanced and reminiscent of bacon. Note by Serge Valentin from whiskyfun.com:

Talisker 25 yo 1975 (59,9%, OB, Bottled 2001, 6000 bottles)  The first limited official Talisker I believe. I always liked it but never took proper notes. Colour: full gold. Nose: it seems that there’s kind of a fight between the spirit and the sherry here, at least for a while, but both mingle together pretty nicely after a few seconds, and do create an ‘extra-dimension’. Something like peated and peppered Seville oranges. After that it’s all on orange cake, vanilla fudge and chestnut honey (a very aromatic honey), with the maritime side coming out but not too much. Lovely anyway. With water: more sherry, of the beefy kind. Barbecued steak, stout beer and smoked ham as well as dried kelp. More complex indeed. Mouth (neat): ultra-big, starting more on bitter oranges and something like icing sugar than on the expected peat-pack. Something slightly ‘unbalanced’ (orangeade) but let’s try it with water. Great news, these disturbing ‘chemically orangey’ notes vanished and we’re all on dried mushrooms, Havana tobacco and dried ginger now. Something like lychees and guavas as well – yes, that was unexpected. It got truly beautiful. Finish: long, balanced, sort of ‘appeased’, both fruity and peaty/peppery. Comments: I had this one at 88 until now but I’ll happily add two more points. SGP:536 – 90 points.

    This Talisker exceptionally tolerates water:
It opens better in the mouth and becomes more complex, softer, deeper
The finish becomes more subtle and smooth, salt, lots of malt and delicious clover sweetness ... and now comes smoke and tobacco and the finish becomes long

I actually recommend a little water here

    that's a very special 25y ...
    yes, I'm in heaven
    • Nose
Cherry jam, sea water in puddles, the beach after a warm summer rain, the smell of beach carnations, pepper and juniper berries,
wet flotsam, wet wood, salty damp air, wet sand,
    • Taste
nutty with chocolate and fruit, vanilla and hay flowers
when swallowing a warm fire runs over the tongue, soft and cuddly
becomes a - wow - intense chili catch on the palate and in the throat, which smokes smokily all over the mouth
    • Finish
      medium to long
Dark chocolate, a lot of malt with the typical sweetness of Talisker
a beautiful Talisker finish that comes again and again

  42. cherokee0815 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

For me a bit dissapointing, far away from the good Talisker (Tactical 82/05 Dark Sherry) and ages away from the very good Talisker like the 20yo. 1981 62.0%.
It´s a lovely Dram not more 4 me.
