This is far too drinkable and reminds me profile wise of the 16 year batch 1 OB which I rate very highly, this is like a less intense version of that one.
Very simple creamy profile with a sherry hit but it works for me.
I think the average score on here is a bit harsh, I would have no problem buying a bottle of this one.
The nose is too light but the palate and finish are fine.

The nose is by far the best of this one, although that needs really some time.
Body and finish too thin to impress.
    • Nose
      83 83
Fruity, a little sour initially, overripe oranges, prunes. Later on it's getting way more attractive, citrus, nuts, chocolate, coffee. This one really needs some time, things improve clearly.
    • Taste
      80 80
Soft and smooth, very little pepper, sweet, honey, some chocolate, a bit of coffee. But it's thin and a bit of watery mouthfeel
    • Finish
      78 78
Smooth and soft, with a bitter edge, coffee, caramel and chocolate. Middle long. Bitterness starts to dominate.

Not (or not) available in DEU - have tasted it in Edinburgh - a pleasant, beautiful malt, even more intense than the "Fior"!
    • Nose
      typical sherry flavors, raisins, toffee, caramel, oak;
    • Taste
      a soft creamy onset, very mild, fruity, sherry, caramel, honey sweetness, some spiciness, cocoa, tasty;
    • Finish
      very short finish; mid-length spicy finish;

  6. holborndrinker scored this whisky 77 points Connoisseur

Not bad, but feel slightly short changed in terms of the taste/cost ratio.
    • Nose
      77 77
Dried fruits - raisins, plums, sultanas.
    • Taste
      77 77
Hard to put your finger on, but some heat - perhaps a touch of oakiness too.
    • Finish
      78 78
Some heat, a decent length of time lingering in the mouth, but not overly exciting.

  7. The Macallan scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

A pleasant surprise if you go in blank and unprejudiced!
    • Nose
Sherry, apple, woodsmoke, malt, nutty, marzipan, dried fruit (sultanas), very pleasant
    • Taste
sherry notes, sweet, woody, dry, dried fruit, mouthwarming, spices (bayleaves)
    • Finish
      Spiced, medium and slightly drying

  8. Totoro scored this whisky 77 points Connoisseur

A simple, undermatured malt, spirity, fruity and light, with a tacked-on overcoat of sherry. Inoffensive yet boring, with a noticeably boozy aftertaste. One to shun.

  9. Mr.Edradour scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

This is the little brother of Fior, nothing more nothing less.

Thank you to Karina for supplying us with a breakdown of what’s ‘under the lid’:

    50%=2007 6yo

     5%=2007 6yo HP?

    20%=1998 13yo

    25%=1999 14yo.

So actually it’s a NAS with a vintage, well vintages. Let’s see what that produces
    N: Smells ‘Paterson-ised’
    T: Rough Dalmore
    F: Rough vanilla
C: Edradour/Dalmore fans will love this. Let’s try the Fasque WB.

This is my first bottle of Fettercairn and for a NAS bottling I thought it was outstanding, very rich and tasty. I would highly recommend it to the lovers of the sherry cask finish whiskies.

This was a gift off my daughters for Christmas, a wonderful sherry finish malt.
    • Nose
Straight away, nutty chocolate and glazed cherries, you can smell the wood very strongly. Butterscotch and rubber tyres with red roses and some lovely sticky toffee pudding.
    • Taste
Smooth and dry with mixed dark fruits, nice and complexed, holds well in the mouth to give you some summer fruit pudding and cherry ice lolly.
    • Finish
A nice long fruit and nut finish with sarsaparilla on the death.
