    Tasting Notes by Adelphi;

    1 of only 201 bottles from cask no. 4721
    Full autumn gold: drawn from an American oak hogshead. Mild nosefeel, with a slightly maritime scent: brine, dry seaweed, warm sand. Beyond this some dried herbal notes (oregano?), becoming slightly medicinal (sphagnum moss). Not as waxy as one expects Clynelish to be, although candles are there, particularly when you taste, when beeswax and thin honey predominate. With water, the wax emerges more obviously, with fragrant dried herbs behind, and it becomes a classic Clynelish. Smooth, soft and lightly teeth-coating, with a taste which balances all the primaries: sweet, salty, acidic, umami!

    The total impression does not completely justify the price, but nevertheless a great dram.

    • Nose
      First: aceton & wood chips, honey, vanilla/white chocolate, somewhat malty & fresh, (83)
      A bit later: more honey & vanilla, wood is turned down a notch and no chips/older, slightly salty/coastal but sweetness dominates by a mile, nice yellow fruit note (fresh apricots,bananas & lemons), nice oily/waxern feel to the nose, (88)
      Later: more waxern & quite intense now, cream & apples or rather (slightly artificial) red-apple ice-cream with faint cinnamon and a slightl vegetal/green note (zuccini...? wtf) and cellulose/wet-sand came into play as well, (87)
      Much later (+90mins): turns a bit too artificial / towards perfumed parrafin (84)
    • Taste
      malty vanilla syrup and a very interesting bitter note underneath the sweetness going hand in hand, slight yeasty/pastry notes when going into the finish, (86)
      Later: syrup turning quite peachy, (85)
    • Finish
      turning less syrupy, fresher, some wet pebbles, perfumed tobacco, malt lemon cookies, faint strawberries, a nice prickle fading out into nice & long malt, honey & spice notes. (88)
      Later: peach continues & generally got sweeter, also a few apples & a slight putty note, not as long as before but very fun & enjoyable now. (87)
