Whisky Reviews for Tamdhu 1984 AD

  1. HammerHead scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

    Nose: vegetal and herbal with a clear note of almonds and butter, bread dough, some pepper, the fruit is in the background, the likes of lychee, pear and some faint honey. With water I get more wood spices and sour/citrus notes (grapefruit and lime), also a touch of vanilla.

    Taste: an oily mouthfeel, pepper, almonds and a slight fruitiness (bitter oranges). With water the sourness and bitterness shift more to the front (clear grapefruit and oranges now).

    Finish: quite long, nutty with a bread note, peppery with clear oak bitters. With water the finish is shorter and has got less bitterness to it.

    Nice bottling, could have done with an extra touch of sweet fruitiness.

    Tasting Notes by Adelphi;

    1 of only 251 bottles from cask no. 2840
    Deep gold in colour, such as only comes from first rate American oak. A rich, gentle, comforting nosefeel and a predominantly fruity aroma – a fruit salad including cling peaches, ripe pear, apple, green banana and even a squeeze of lime. A drop of water reinforces its Speyside pedigree, and introduces a hint of pale vanilla sponge. Drinks well at natural strength: sweet, with light acidity and an aftertaste of Terry’s Chocolate Orange. The water enhances the smooth texture, reduces the sweetness and makes the whole impression more tart/acidic. A perfect aperitif.

    just after opening the bottle there is a very clear note of Aceton in the nose. give it some time (1 hour) and this is gone. a lot of oak, spices, pepper. i am missing some more sweetnes, nearly no honey or vanilla. there was not much going on in this one but still interesting dram
