  1. Calmar scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

A noble and aristocratic whisky, perfectly balanced, a wide palette, rich in shades, a complex composition, sufficient depth, all components are worthy of each other, the release is clearly not age-old, but already established.
    • Nose
Open, wet, smoky peaty notes - a fire drenched in rain, burnt branches; Pu-erh, lemon peel, wet stones, stone dust, gypsum, plaster, planed boards, wool, sweet candy tones.
    • Taste
Soft. rich, sweet creamy notes with spicy oak, pepper wave, leather goods, velvety smoky peat motifs, salted caramel, boiled condensed milk, mineral-metallic sourness, juicy oily shades, tobacco leaf, coffee, dark chocolate.
    • Finish
Spicy, warming, leather goods, pipe tobacco, oak, scorched wood, a little peat, mineral-metallic shades, burnt match heads, salted caramel.

  2. DistiLesha scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

My first whisky, where I distinctly feel a real hazelnut, not the hazelnut that for some reason everyone finds in almost every whisky, supposedly. And here he really is, and besides, in the first place!
A very cool, balanced, complex whisky that I would like to buy for my collection!
    • Nose
Match sulfur, baked goods, fruits, bright sherry, sour, dried apples, dried apricots
    • Taste
Hazelnut! (no doubt), dried fruit sweetness, astringency
    • Finish
      Hazelnut, astringency, woodiness

    SMWS Tasting Notes
    Colour: Pale amber
    Flavour: Lightly peated

Raw dough with a whiff of smoke. Dusty, coal smuts: we thought of Beatrix Potter’s story about Tom Kitten… Over time the smokiness increases, soon joined by light medicinal notes (sphagnum moss, Swarfega hand wash), while the dough becomes more buttery, like Aberdeen ‘rowies’ (a buttery form of croissant). The taste is sweet, clean and hot, with light sulphur, antiseptic and peaty elements. Water raises European oak notes (struck matches) for a moment, then bread and butter pudding, and now the taste has treacle toffee, salty butter and charred toast in the finish. Famously smoky for an Aberdeenshire malt.

Drinking Tip: Reading Beatrix Potter beside an unlit fireplace

  5. Sonett scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
young and newmake, oily vanilla, a little peat and some toffee in the background
    • Taste
      Peaty, spicy, peaches
    • Finish
medium long with same tastes as above
