Nose: Thick rye, very perfumed. Linseed. Gentle leather caramel and dry tobacco leaves. Dark tea and cumin. Vanilla too. It’s very spicy earthy and deep.

Palate: Earthy vanilla with linseed. Grapefruit pith. Spices. Pepper. Floral too. With a hint of tobacco cinnamon and cumin.

Finish : Dry. Grapefruit pith and spices.

This is a nice and rather complex dram, with lovely Grapefruit notes, as well as earthy feel to it. Much more complex than I had anticipated it to be. Very nice! Jim Murray gave it 96.5 in his 2013 bible, but I know it really means nothing, like many of his questionable marks. It’s very good no doubt, yet not over 90 in my book anyways.

Tasting Notes Floral aroma, with hints of spicy wood and
cinnamon. Notes of roasted nuts, citrus and vanilla, which are
complemented by a bold and spicy undertone. Finish is long and robust,
with notes of oak and baking spices mingled with sweet undertones of
    honey, marshmallow and caramel.

The flavour profile of Masterson’s strongly favors the grain over the
barrel. The nose, though floral, is dominated by earth and grain. The
Masterson’s palate is broad, ranging from wet clay through roasted grain
to gunny sacks, pepper, spice and vanilla before resolving in citric
pith. This is a well-balanced, finely crafted rye whiskey, cast in the
mould of the ultimate connoisseur’s straight rye – a deliciator’s stolen
pleasure intended to be savored. Very highly recommended!

Named for Canadian-born frontier lawman, William "Bat" Masterson, one of
the most famous Americans from the Old West: this whiskey is a tip of
the hat to Bat Masterson - a buffalo hunter, card dealer, and lawman,
who retired to New York where he became a prolific sportswriter and
newspaperman. Appropriate because of the role that saloons, card games
and whiskey played in the gun slinging days of the Wild West.
