Whisky Reviews for Tomintoul 1967 MoS

8 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 91.44 points

  1. grinface scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

The nose and mouth are very good. However, it needs a few tries to get the right feeling for the wort. Then it's great. I would have liked the finish to be fuller, more voluminous. To be honest, I miss that for a rating at the top. Full review (german): https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2020/09/28/noch-mehr-speyside-im-glas/

A good aged bourbon cask. Not unique, not special, not even very complex, but enjoyable.

A superb bourbon cask. Lots of vanilla and fruits like Bartlett and Korean pears, bananas, fuji apples. Also corn? Well, it is a bourbon cask after all.
    • Taste
      91 91
A very distinctive medicinal/aspirin note, which brings some austerity and complexity to the vanilla and fruits. There is some grass, or lemongrass even, and some lemon honey tea. To be honest, this could be one of the recent 1973 Speyside casks to have come out in recent years, the ones that everyone thinks are mostly fino casks from Glenfarclas.
    • Finish
      89 89
Moderate length. Definitely some oak at the end, perhaps a bit too much.

This one here tastes the age - varied flavors, changing back and forth, with good body, good start, good balance, fruity, kräutrig, spicy - something of everything
    • Nose
Banana, honey, beeswax, tangerines, fresh grass clippings, roasted almonds, stomach bread, raisins, vanilla, nasturtium, milk chocolate, peppermint, gooseberry, apples, licorice - very much in it, with ever-changing aromas
    • Taste
clear, brilliant, gooseberries, apples, nutmeg, espresso, vanilla, cress, anise, licorice, hyssop, pepper, marjoram, vanilla, more espresso, tangerines, quince, peppermint
    • Finish
long, intense, quince, nutmeg, pepper, espresso, cress, hyssop, marjoram, light sweetness, banana and mandarin, licorice - sweet-spicy-spicy-slightly bitter

Very well balanced and rather complex.  Leaves the mouth feeling "fresh".  That said, you have to enjoy the healthy herbal notes of the mint, and the anise.
    • Nose
Very busy.  Ripe sultanas. Anise seeds and menthol (abundant, but nicely abundant). Vanilla shortbread. Wood varnish.  Small traces of honey and clay.
    • Taste
Almost a repeat of the nose, with a nice fruity note of sultanas, followed with mint and licorice.
    • Finish
Long and peppery with more anise and fresh mint.
