    • Nose
      Like the smell of rocks that have been beaten by the waves for a long time, oil, beeswax, floral, a small amount of malt, fruit and smoke, with a pungent sensation like mint.
    • Taste
      Because it is too consistent with the taste, it is directly dried like drinking water. It should be a cloud-like cloud top, wood, ore, preserved fruit, lipids, and malt. The salt feels like it is covered by wood. Some Shirley a feeling of.
    • Finish
      Moderate, high alcohol levels are prone to irritation, and it is easy to make the afterglow less cute after dissipating.

    The first edition was far more a spectacular whisky, still also a great whisky.

    Smoke tip. Generous fruit. Rich, honeyed. Coffee note. A lot of caramel. Zest of lime. On the palate, spices dominate. The alcohol is a little too present and prevents to appreciate the rest. With water, then there, yes! The nose is now overflowing with fruit. The palate is rich, sweet, with a note of prunes and cooked wine, and leaves red fruit in the finish.

    Quite possibly the definitive Springbank house style.
    • Nose
      Austere. Mineral and metallic. Rum?
    • Taste
      Misty and viscous. Sweet and spicy, tangy, minty, peppery, malty.
    • Finish
      Long and complex drying. Flowery, grassy, smoky, tobacco, bitter oak, maple syrup, and finally, unmistakably, Red Delicious apples.

    The quality is readily apparent with this one.  Even if the nose doesn't give it up easily, the finish is more complex than you might expect for the age.

      Closed.  Metallic and mineral.  Rum?
    • Taste
      Sweet and spicy, tangy, minty, peppery, malty, with a viscous body.
    • Finish
      Long, drying, flowery, grassy, smoky, tobacco, bitter, maple syrup, and Red Delicious apples.

    Tasting notes were made with no water added.  This is an excellent whisky.  It’s difficult to say how the flavor profile will change in each year’s batch.  It is complex, and much more sophisticated than the 10 year old version.  The addition of water only dilutes the flavors, and doesn’t seem to change them very much at all.
    • Nose
      A floral, perfumed fragrance to begin, followed by hints of spice and mint.
    • Taste
      Leather, pipe tobacco, and peppermint combine with some grapefruit/citrus and crushed pecans.  There is also some salty, mineral flavors, along with a bit of vegetal peat.
    • Finish
      Long, with a bite.  Whatever smoke is in this whisky appears in the finish, along with oak wood and black cavendish pipe tobacco.

    These notes were compiled over 10 months and reflect my preference for this dram (adding some water, which I don't normally do). 
    • Nose
      Light smoke, creamy peat, dark honey, brine, and a hint of vanilla.
    • Taste
      Soft and creamy for such high ABV. Sweet, creamy peat; honey; brine; and spices. Without water I find it the same but with heightened salinity and more tightly integrated flavours.
    • Finish
      A billow of smoke in the finale (it finally comes forward), then soft briny peat. The finish is very long and warming, with a lingering briny smoke.

    • Nose
      (neat) bees wax, oily, vanilla, peach, malty

       (water) creamy, mild peat, peach, pine
    • Taste
      (neat) quite different, bitter syrup, vanilla, floral notes,
      buttery

      (water) sweet
      and dry, slightly bitter, sultana, aspartame,  tar, pine
    • Finish
      medium, bitter-sweet, ashy, herbal

    This is an amazing dram, layer upon layer of bitter, dry, peat, fruit, wood. A lot of fun to dissect and play around with.
    • Nose
      Dried fruits. Espresso. Cacao. Vegetal peat. Mineral salt. Mild olive oil. Black pepper, freshly crushed. Wet grass. Matches. Camphor. Wood smoke becomes more prominent with water. 
    • Taste
      Horse-radish type spice, like wasabi. Dark sticky fruits, dry not sweet. Toasted almonds. Butter on burned toast. Peat. Bitter, dry citrus. Lapsang souchong tea. Cigar ash. Bitter chocolate. Fruit notes become slightly sweeter with water.
    • Finish
      Long. More lapsang souchong. Tobacco Smoke. Pepper. More bitter dark fruits, some black cherries coming through. Long bitter dry woody note.
